Howl and Sophie

Don't worry, darling, I'm here

Don’t worry, darling, I’m here

Ugly picture… somehow, I lost all sense of realism here, and it came out looking like… well, really bad. Anyway, I got Howl’s Moving Castle, I guess for my birthday, and it quickly became my favourite Miyazaki movie, especially since it’s his only movie with any sort of overt romance. Plenty of others – Whisper of the Heart, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, etc – hint at it, especially WotH, but HMC is the sweetest. And it’s full of drama.

Elvish Parade

Ooh, they're so shiiiiiiny

Ooh, they’re so shiiiiiiny

I love this picture, even though it’s technically not finished. There should be more crowds, for one thing; that’s why the buildings on the left aren’t done. I decided that 15 was enough knights, including Flaer and Zela – for that’s who the two unhelmeted riders are. There’s so much in this picture, like several swooning girls, talking, excited riders, city, unicorns, blah blah blah… I’m afraid to touch it in case Zela’s hair gets smudged. The horses are still not great, but they are better than some, especially Yoeath, Zela’s unicorn, who was here still called Mist. Also, the armour looks actually pretty well developed, even if it’s not armour that a normal knight person would wear. It’s been skewed by Fire Emblem. Sorry.

This picture was inspired by the Dream March from Copland’s Red Pony Suite.

Zela Greets the Sun

Fanfare!

Fanfare!

This picture was inspired by the first movement of the Red Pony Suite by Copland. I tried the backlight thing, where the light sort of wraps around the figure. It didn’t work so well, and she has terrible ears. Maybe it’s that her head is too small. And by the way, her sword hilt design is finalized; at least it was in the profile avatar sketch and I used it again here. Her hair is too long.

D&D Adventure Group 1.0

I have a lens flare on my sword; fear me!

I have a lens flare on my sword; fear me!

Ha, this is a cool picture despite the technical problems. The guy in the middle is the ‘hero boy’, Ron. The Meticulous Dwarf Wiz is the short guy, and then Jervis is the ‘axe boy’ over on the left. On the right, the chick is named Marialla and keeps her lockpicks in her purse. Ha. Lastly is Flairé: yah! Continue reading

Bran

Albinos have all the power

Albinos have all the power

This is Bran from The Dark is Rising series. He’s an albino with golden eyes. He wears sunglasses so as not to freak people. He teaches Will Staunton to pronounce Welsh, which I think is pretty cool. And this picture still doesn’t look like him much at all. My portraiture is still primitive.

Reyson and Leanne

Angelic herons

Angelic herons

Leanne and Reyson in portrait, except that I didn’t know how to draw Leanne! So her hair is completely wrong. Darn. But Reyson, on the other hand, my brother believes good enough to pass as official art – after colouring. …I don’t think so, but it’s a pretty good drawing of him. And I rather like drawing wings, even if I have no idea how to do it properly.

Sain and Salir

He's a sweetie

He’s a sweetie

Happy Valentine’s Day! About six months late… This is Salir, I guess, and Sain in the corner, and I drew it for Valentine’s Day. Salir’s body is too big for her head, and that’s why she looks wierd. I’m not sure… I think Salir’s hair is shorter somehow… I never have a clear picture of what she looks like, just how she acts.

Sketch for Zela avatar

When I get my hands on my sword...

When I get my hands on my sword…

I leave today after lunch, so here is a meaningful picture. It’s the pencil sketch I drew in preparation for making a new website design; probably this one. Yes, this website had been brewing for at least a year before I put it up. And you didn’t see Elfinessé 1 or Zela’s Page, both of which have been around for a couple of years, and both of which are junk. Comparatively.

She looks nice in this picture.

So this sketch is for my avatar. I had trouble with the positioning of the hand, and also I forgot to draw in the hair before I scanned it. So I free-handed the hair in Photoshop when I coloured it (more on that later, when I put up the colour version) with a mouse. And I still didn’t know how to do ears, which is another setback. Maybe I should recolour it!

Carl and Mark

Dude...

Dude…

These two guys are named Carl and Mark. Carl is the one with the (red) sweatshirt and Mark is the one with sunglasses. They’re from an original (gasp) story bouncing around in my head. Carl is a bummy jerk, thinking of dropping out of Grade 11, and Mark is the school genius and a bit fussy about his appearence. Their class goes to some (foreign?) city where Carl wanders off, bored, Mark goes to go get him, and the bus leaves without them. The part requiring suspension of disbelief follows (until I can sort it out realistically) because somehow they have no way to call home. Or talk to the police. Or anything. They’re ‘stranded in civilization’. And have to work together to make it back. Wow, how clichéed. At least it’s my own characters and my own setting messing it up, not some FE or LZ (or, heaven forbid, ME) folks in their own nerdy world (where, admittedly, it might be easier to come up with an excuse for the scenario).
