The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: Abduction!

THAT GUY. HE IS A NINJA.

THAT GUY. HE IS A NINJA.

Leslie: Well, this has certainly been a weird day… I had a nap and I wake up… in Jen’s head? (shakes head) No, it has to be real. Flairé is so nice, and Flaria is such a good cook… (dark-clad figures creep in through open window and grab her) Ah!

Aaaaaah! Something happened! Oh noes!

Hold on to your instruments, things are actually going to go pretty fast from this point on. I guess I need to work on pacing more.

How do you like the attempt at moonlit floor? That’s not a moon in the upper right panel – it’s a stained glass window.

Sorry I’m late again. I was getting ready for Christine’s recital! She looked like a goddess of spring, with a light green silk gown and a silver clip in her golden hair. And she played fantastically, of course! Laura was pretty amazed at the end of the trio (Pantheon by Elizabeth Raum) because we filled the hall with so much sound.

30 seconds later:

Flaria: Oh! A person. How old is she? Does she like music? Where did you get the dress?

Flairé: Her name is Leslie, she’s 19, and she plays music everyday. We got the dress at Avumal’s place. Miss Leslie, this is my over-excitable sister Flaria.

Flaria: *eyeroll* Hello, Leslie! I’m very pleased to meet you. What do you like to eat?

Leslie: What is there?

AAAAAHHHHH IT’S A FEMALE FLAIRÉ just kidding.

Oh, yes. As soon as Flaria meets the new girl her thought is only hyper curiousity and whether she’s hungry.

This room needs a little more colour. The next time you see it, it will have some red drape-y things. Almost wasn’t going light the candles, but then I figured that it would only be natural. And I’m running out of yellow marker! : ( I will try and fix that for next week but I make no guarantees.

Oh and I don’t think the “switching back and forth” in the first frame was too successful. I will do better next time. I also forgot Flairé’s sword in the second panel. He just took it off really really fast? Those kalmaei are fast, you know.

The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: Names, Names, Names

Flairé: We’re going to go now, Yoeath. Unless you want to stay longer? (Leslie: Ummm… shrug?) We’re going to meet my sister and get some food. You know!

Yoeath: Get along with you then, Zelaré.

Leslie: Ummm… I thought your name was Flairé?

Flairé: Well, most people call me the son of my father. But she’s friends with my mother, so she calls me the son of my mother.

Leslie: Ohhhh…

Flairé: Bit awkward that my little brother calls himself Marteth Hciristial Zelaré, though…

Leslie: ?

…Confused yet? : P

Well, it’s not important anyway. As you can probably tell, Leslie already knows a good deal about kalmaeirin naming conventions due to hanging around me a lot. o_O7

Yoeath: Are… you staying long, little Leslie?

Leslie: I don’t know, Yoeath. I just got here, and I’m so confused…

Yoeath: That is all right. You little ones often are. Although it is not as if you come here often.

Leslie: Have many people come here?

Yoeath: Only a handful. Young Flairé takes care of them when they do.

Flairé: That’s right! There’s my fudhuindili, her fudhuindon – though I don’t think he remembers much – also a few really random people you wouldn’t know. Like Illi- Esgalwen.

Leslie: But – oh. Really?

Flairé: Yup! : )

Yoeath struggles with personal pronouns while Flairé gabbles on about people he knows while still being mysterious. It’s a problem that I, my brother, and Flairé, Gullac, Zela, and Marteth all have. Flowering bushes take forever, and I’m pleased with today’s chibis.

Cheers!

Duruflé is the best. THE BEST.

Leslie: What’s that?

Flairé: A unicorn. Hey, Yoeath!

Leslie: Awwww! (goes running off – freezes suddenly as Yoeath turns and blinks at her)

Yoeath: Hello? And what is thy name?

Leslie: L-leslie

Yoeath: Thou may call me Yoeath.

(Flairé: Yo, the current usage says ‘you’ is casual, not ‘thou’… Yoeath: *blinks*)

Whoa, those flowers were a little bit of a trick. Aaaaand the background is a bunch of random squares. Whatever.

P.S. Today is both Professor Tolkien’s birthday and Epiphany! Hooray!

Flairé: And can you make another tailored to her?

Storekeep: I certainly can, master. Though I would have thought you’d have enough tiny clothing by now.

Flairé: (laughs) Nah, everyone deserves their own. Yes?

Storekeep: Sure. (smiles)

Leslie: (tugs on Flairé’s sleeve)

Flairé: What is it?

Leslie: It isn’t a bother… is it…?

Flairé: Now don’t you fret your pretty head about that. It’s my present to you.

Leslie: Thank you very much…!

Flairé: No prob. (both leave shop and enter the castle gate; Flairé carrying Leslie’s old clothes) (Flairé: (to guards) Hey, guys!)

EDIT: I made a statue of Leslie in the first panel. You can see it here.

Leslie: Boats!

Flairé: *nod nod* : )

Leslie: Whoaaa… (seeing the castle)

Flairé: Yep. Do you want to go to the castle first, or see some stuff first?

Leslie: …Can we go to the castle? (Ringkun: Hey, Flairé! – Flairé: Hey…)

Flairé: (kind look) Sure!

Hey, another page! I finished this one early! Like, on Thursday! Lots of shiny-haired people, huh? I especially like Leslie’s hair in the third panel. Do you?

BTW, there are no prizes for spotting cameos, but I do like throwing them in there. And no that’s not Joe on this page. It could be. But it’s not.

The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: Welcome to the Lilemlen

Flairé: So this is the great harbour city of the Lilemlen-

Leslie: The Leellemming? (random guard: Hello, Lord Flairé! Flaire: How’s it going?)

Flairé: Lil-em-len. It means Moon-land. This is not the capital, but it’s close enough.

Leslie: It’s wonderful!

Aaaaaand another page is up. Took a long time to colour. So many decisions to make! Very colourful, I think. The poses of the second three panels took a long time to draw. They were hard. So the guys in the bottom, a lot of them are sailors. The people with dark skin are from the griffonland. The lady in pink is from the Dragonland. But everyone else is Moonlandish. I liked drawing the guards. You have to look kind of closely but their armour is actually somewhat shiny.

I’m completely obsessed with Duruflé’s Messe Cum Jubilo. It’s glorious and gorgeous.

I also downloaded Sphere but haven’t started messing with it yet. Fire Emblem 7.5, here I come. I hope. Coding seems to be very hard. My brother was very frustrated at it this afternoon.

The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: City

Leslie: Wow.

Flairé: Nice, huh?

Now we get to see what they were looking at last page! It’s a city! With vastly oversized gates! The ship sailing into harbour has the royal emblem on its sail, sort of. Lilar-Moihh means Sun-path. So, Sunset Harbour, basically. Except more poetic. It’s a city of mostly white stone, but I did do some pale greys. They were too subtle and got washed out, unfortunately.

Today my Mom coloured a unicorn in a colouring book that was lying around. So we were colouring together! Yay!

Flairé: Anyway, let’s go to the city! You should have a look around now that you’re here.

Leslie (looks at him): O-okay.

(walk hand in hand, birdies)

Sorry for being late today. I didn’t have this one drawn or anything, so I did that as soon as I got home from church and JUST finished. That’s… four hours? Eeek, that’s a bit longer than I wanted to spend on it. But look! It’s incredibly colourful! I decided not to be lame, and put in a background! I wonder what they’re looking at in the last panel?

Oh, and I used some coloured Sharpies for some of the colour this time, and they go down so smoothly it’s incredible. You can see it in two trees and a bush in the first panel!
