Hokay, so I watched the movie “Tremors” and it was freaky, and scary, but also pretty funny. : D And then I decided that Marteth would kick butt and I should draw him doing it.

That is my story for today.

Vivaldi is totally Baroque rock’n'roll. : D

Wilderness

painted Aug 21, ‘10

(640)

Aaaaahhhh! It’s another picture!

Sorry for leaving you guys so long. I was doing… other things… like going to Vancouver and practicing piano several hours a day.

This painting has been in my head since… Sunday, July 17th, around 5:00 PM. This was during an Evensong sermon at CCC, in which the pastor spoke to us organists about how we were all wonderful people but not adventurous unless pushed, so she challenged us to ’step out of the box and head into the wilderness’ like John the Baptist and Christ and anyone else you can think of who went into the wilderness. Now that day I was really having a bad day, so the idea of ‘wilderness’ terrified me and I nearly broke down in church… but I did get this picture in my head, and I decided I felt like painting it because it’s an interesting picture.

Basically what this picture is saying is that if I ever get lost in the wilderness, I just have to remember that there are at least two people with me: my guardian angel and Flairé. My guardian angel is actually closer to me than Flairé… Well, he is the personification of my conscience, my angel, I mean.

I’m not sure about the lighting… I think I might tweak it a bit later. And one thing that is a pain is that I actually put a lot of detail on Flairé and the angel, but then I blurred them and put mist in front of them (because they’re supposed to blend into the background) so you can’t see ANY of the detail at all and in fact they look quite flat.

Okay, here is a de-fogged and de-blurred version because it looks cool too. Although Flairé is actually quite ugly. Blah.

Oh, so you want to know about Vancouver and so on? Well, basically: swordfighting was tremendous fun, and the people and the place were fantastic. But rapiers are heavier than they look. That Wednesday I went with Organist to the VanDusen Gardens, and they were lovely. Gardens are so peaceful… Great way to relax. Henry V was fabulous, and The Boy was really good, and so was Henry, of course, and some of the actors were also in Othello last year, and Organist wasn’t too sure about the interpretive battle-dancing but the bits with Princess Katherine were really funny. : D

I also got to catch up with Leslie for the first time in a while, and hopefully soon I shall do the same with KevinT because I haven’t seen him in months either. And people will start returning soon and then… then school will start and things will be insane as usual. Can’t wait! X D

I’m also most of the way through Gospel of Luke, and slowly learning more about my own religion… Soon I won’t be one of the ignorant masses anymore! X D Also my repertoire is getting learned; it’s easier than it seems. I’m memorizing the Haydn Sonata already, and I’m going to try and memorize most of the Ravel as fast as I can… the Brahms is going to take some beating before I get it under my fingers, but the hard parts are definitely the Ravel Toccata and the Liebermann Gargoyles fourth movement - they are both MM=144 and kind of ridiculously hard. : P But I shall triumph! You’ll see!

I’ve been listening to Duruflé all day. Whoo! My new favourite piece for now is the Choral from the Prélude, Adagio, et Choral Varié on the theme Veni Creator. Absolutely gorgeous. But I have to say my favourite recording of the Suite Op. 5 is the one I’ve had for years and no other. <3

Cheers!

Mini Sketches

...
Brightly coloured faces!

Brightly coloured faces!

And then there's Joe.
And then there’s Joe.

Mini Sketches
drawn between Sep 9, ‘09 and Mar 1, ‘10

Hi! This is a small, brightly coloured, neatly arranged sample of sketches that I accomplished at school or related to school, as these are on mini-flashcards. The blue and green ones are on Latin flashcards; the pink ones are when I decided to devote a whole pack of these to drawing - they come on a handy ring, even.

So! From the top is Flairé, asking if I’m going to put his name in Latin (Flaireus?) and then a random and really bad sketch of Fiora the pegasus knight from FE7, and then Zela, moody and broody as usual, with a list of descriptive terms on the back, which I shan’t list here as we know them already, then Rana (cover of part 2 of the Latin, with her name declined in singular), and then Tam is the cover of the random sketchies (he’s a little skinny, but I’m actually quite pleased with him!) and then a dramatic picture of Flaer (woooot luv ya buddy) and then Menad, smiling to show the dimples (a new development when I drew that) and with one of his two dogs, and then Bayn and Lyrestan to try to show the difference between them (fail), and then someone who could be Mathaning.

And then Joe the elf. Oh my.

I built my dream house in Sims3! There are no musical instruments besides the guitar, and I want to put an organ in, so I just put the biggest sound system they had and called it even. But you should see my brother’s ridiculous house. It’s… ridiculous. It’s five stories and he lives alone. The first floor and a half are all that are furnished at the moment. The bottom floor is for parties. So there’s a kitchen big enough to feed an army (appropriate, considering the guy is in the military). The cabinets cost a ridiculous amount alone. And he lives upstairs with his cheapo furniture scattered haphazardly across the unfinished space. He works one day a week as an astronaut and then paints the rest of the time.

I LOVE ORGAN in case you didn’t receive that sentiment yet. I had a lesson yesterday, and although the Duruflé sounded like crap the ending was pretty glorious crap. FULL ORGAN. Wow, I get an adrenaline rush just thinking about it. Also, the Alix Goolden organ has a working console. AWESOME.

I use too many caps.

Gyoriing and Layalin

drawn

(629)

This is Sir Gyoriing and Princess Layalin, who are madly in love with each other. Whenever I draw these two, something doesn’t go right.

“But Jen”, I hear you say, “this is obviously only your second time at drawing them together, and the mistakes made are so obvious you will easily refrain from them in a third attempt.”

Well yes, I reply, but what mistakes shall I make then? But the way to better drawing is through practice, which I have not got. Anyway, I am happy with the hair and the clothes, even if the faces and proportions are shot.

That’s all the art I have for a while, but I am working on getting more for you! If I can tear myself away from all these video games, I have lots of Ephraim’s story ready to write (I said that before, no?) and I really really want to make some colour art because this stuff is kind of hard to look at for ages on end. How do the pros make such nice pencil art? : P

EDIT: I finished Moby Dick today! I now know more about whaling through the eyes of strange poets than I ever wanted to. Bah. The end was actually interesting. Before that, well, we have bits of story mixed in with EVERYTHING MELVILLE EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WHALES EVER. 8O Now I just have to finish my Philosophy course, and learn my music. Think I can do it? :|

Also.

Wheeeeee! (that's not in the song)

La Plus Jolie Maitresse

drawn

This is Gullac (obviously), singing, while hanging from the bowsprit of an elven ship. Not so happy with it, but it gets the gist across. This picture was inspired by the song La Plus Jolie Maitresse by Norouet, and I have no idea what the words mean in the rest of the song besides the title, but it’s really pretty.

Things to do today: clean house, practice organ until I go crazy, finish reading Moby Dick, play lots of Brawl.
