Drum Dance I

Try the French-Canadian group Norouet – that’ll get your blood dancing

My brother never ceases to make fun of this, but it’s actually a part of the kalma’eiric culture to dance on drums, occasionally throwing one’s primary instrument in the air. And her dress came out well, too.

Flar

Ancient sadness, and rumpled clothes

Ancient sadness, and rumpled clothes

Flar, the king. He looks kind and wise. Perfect. He also looks kind of… off – his hair is good but his face shading is not – but oh well. And I was still experimenting with cloth. Not too good here, but improving slightly.

Zela and hair and stuff

I can see you, and Link can hear you… O_O7

I was thinking about drawing in the middle of the night, and I imagined drawing this hair. So I got up and drew it. I don’t do that often. Didn’t turn out too well scanned. Then I drew Zela, using shading to see her profile in a 3/4 view. Then I drew Link’s ear because I felt like it. Yay for randomness!

Klo Tark

Enigmatic, he waits patiently, practicing his meditation, which is on... delivering the next lame pun.

This is a blue-skinned, white-haired, yellow-eyed elf-like alien being from the webcomic Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, which is definitely not for under-13s. A lot of naughty stuff in it, and some really bad puns… but I like Klo Tark.

Mahad, Dahlia, and Janaff

Mahad: (air guitar) Dahlia: He is so clownish…

Mahad? Dahlia? Janaff? What? Um, I guess I was thinking of Skyland again, and this is what came out! I like the chibi-Mahad. He seems like an electric-guitar guy. I have no idea what Janaff is doing there. Come to think of it, I have no idea what Janaff is doing! Someone want to tell me?

Zela’s Family

The whole pile at once

The whole pile at once

This is Zela and Flaer’s complete family. From L-R, T-B (top to bottom), Flaer, the hero of the story, who has since had a slight makeover, Zela, the heroine of the story, Flairé, looking wierd and the narrator of at least part of it, Flaria, the token gracious female, Menad, who’s looking quite a beauty here despite the fact that he goes evil at some point, Marteth, who we met yesterday and who still has stupid hair and this time a stupid face as well, Bayn, wearing Griffin-land style clothes and looking a bit odd (jaw too straight), Gullac, winking roguishly at the viewer because that’s what he does, and finally, Mathaning, the naive innocente. This is the best picture of him.

So, finally, the whole of Zela’s family has been represented graphically at least once. Good!

Marteth

This is Zela and Flaer’s fourth child and third son (counting Menad), Marteth. I now disagree violently with his hair. On the other hand, it’s well shaded (for me), and his character design on all other points looks pretty good. And that’s a dragon head on his sword hilt, not a dragon skull. And his expression is pretty good, although his chin is too sharp and/or protruding. Or something. It doesn’t look realistic somehow. Anyway, it’s a brand new (to you) character! How intriguing!

Zela playing and dancing

Stop watching me, mortal.

Stop watching me, mortal.

Oooh! Pretty! It’s Zela, doing stuff!

I like the one on the left, dancing. Her arms are a bit long… okay, they’re way too long, and her shoulder is too low. But, her pose in general is good, and her sketchy skirt is nice, and her face is just about perfect, and her hair is about three times as long as it usually is, but it’s so pretty… I think I was having a way-too-long-hair thing at this time; I mean, look at Flaer.

The one on the left contains a sort of design for a kalma’eiric violin. It looks a little silly to me now. And she’s wearing a shorter skirt for a change, and her hair is loose for a change… which is rather pretty as well. I like her sleeves the best of all, though. And I get to show off my terrible un-mastery of perspective, as well.

Mahad and Dahlia slide down a sand-dune

"You - you idiot!" "I didn't know it was slippery!"

“You – you idiot!” “I didn’t know it was slippery!”

There is a rather nice kids’ show on CBC called Skyland. It’s done with incredible 3D CG graphics, using motion capture techniques (if only the acting matched the image). The hero, Mahad, is a clown, a heroic clown. Isn’t that typical? Yet he is cool. Just don’t tell him that. Dahlia, on the other hand, is responsible. She tells him off like an irritable big sister. Yet anyone can see they’re clearly supposed to be love interests.

So this was just a drawing of some random adventure they had, possibly the prelude to some actual love interest stuff – e.g., Mahad not spitting out stupid lines every minute and maybe some actual kissing…

And the picture itself is SUPER TERRIBLE. They’re not dressed like that, and Mahad’s hair is terrible. Not to mention he’s too small. Urgh.
