Joe the Elf and company

BOBBLEHEADS?

BOBBLEHEADS?

Ahahaha, I like these guys. On the top left! We have Joe the Elf, looking waaaay too over-excited as usual. Next to him is his buddy/bunkmate/roommate/fellow soldier Doug, who is actually much too smart for Joe and beats on him verbally a lot, and who was resurrected by Sam at some point in the past. Next on the right is Steve, the cheerful Tiranoc Chariot driver who joins the team and is basically the group’s transportation. On the bottom left is Sam, the lovely lady mage who gives Joe a reason to show off. And last is Hercules, who is not an elf, but he’s so tough he doesn’t care.
Hercules was inspired by a five-minute MST3K clip on YouTube of the movie of the same name. Hercules basically is da tuff guy, and in this little roleplay, his primary role is to punch Joe. In the head. Repeatedly. He gets killed by a random ballista in an orchard, and then his ghost comes back and bothers Joe.
All these people are from a random Warhammer-themed roleplay my brother and I did. To read part of the plot, go to the previous picture (which is in a more ‘serious’ style, for irony).
I think the art style of this was partly inspired by the angel webcomic Paradis, with its oversized eyes and wacky eyebrows.

Joe and Sam

Hey! Your hair is longer than mine! <3

Hey! Your hair is longer than mine! <3

Who are these crazy people? I’ll tell you. The guy on the right is Joe the Elf, a Warhammer High Elf who is highly emotional, crazy spastic, and amazingly good at combat even though he’s still only at picture books despite being an adult. The girl on the left is his true love, Sam (Samantha), a very powerful magegirl who is sweet and intelligent and calm(er).

Once upon a time, Joe was stationed at a fort on the sea. Some orcs attacked! Joe lost his captain, whom he called Boss (but his captain gave him all his stuff like his magic sword with his dying breath) and also his bunkmate Doug, and his captain, with his other dying breath, charged him to go to the capital and warn the king. Joe ran through the woods, meeting a Tiranoc chariot driver named Steve (nice elvish names, hey?) who drove him to the next town on the way, a big huge useless gate. There he met Hercules in the inn, but he ran away (Joe, that is) after he got punched in the face. To this day, Joe still whimpers and hides when anyone mentions Hercules. Then he wandered around until he met Sam and convinced her to join the party.

Yay?

Joe has ridiculously long (like, Sephiroth-long) blonde hair. You’ll be seeing him at least once more, so stay tuned.

Eye in the Sky

...What are you looking so smug about?

…What are you looking so smug about?

Hi! I just got back from Ontario yesterday, visiting the whole family. It was splendid. But I like being back.

This is, obviously, a picture of Ceniro. I don’t remember the circumstances. Judging from the title I was listening to the Alan Parsons Project song of the same name, which is his temporary theme song… But maybe I just wanted to draw him. He didn’t turn out that great, though. He has a really weird smile.

I have decided to start wearing jewelry. I was given more on the trip, and it’s very pretty, and so is the stuff I already have. So that’s my new resolution – get fit, learn to draw realism, and wear sparkly stuff. (And finish my silly fanfics and my Hallowe’en costume. And learn to play all my music in an impressive fashion.)

I played some Fire Emblem on the trip, too. I can write a whole bunch of Ephraim’s story now, and I also played the first four chapters of Shadow Dragon. No fanfics forthcoming on that, though, as the manga is already awesome. Not that I own it or anything. I should look into that.

Also! The Museum of Civilization is pretty cool and so is the War Museum. I love the statue of Justice in the hall where the Vimy Memorial maquettes live. And they’re right by a painting that gave me shivers. But the War Museum also makes me cry pretty easily. Some people have asked me why I’m writing about a war, and I reply something about it needs to be recorded in the hopes that it inspires at least a few people in some fashion. And not in a warlike fashion, either. : P

Also KevT is back in town so there should be some D&D happening in the next month.

Sketchbook cover

By request, here is the cover of the sketchbook that the Leslie/Flairé comic was drawn in. I bought a little package of Japanese paper and proceeded to cover up the complete doke who previously adorned this book. He was rollerblading with a giant pen.

Flairé and Leslie are represented, but the rest is just random.

I will not be updating for a little while. But I have some stuff for you when I start again!

Leslie: Was it a dream? I could have sworn I fell asleep in the practice room… Look, there’s my backpack and my music books, and my keys…

She goes to look out the window of her dorm, and then turns away to her computer (Faceborg!! j/k). But a mysterious smile still hangs in the reflections in the window…

THE LASTEST PAGE!! I’m actually feeling a little bit sad that I don’t have to do it anymore. The weekly scramble to draw and colour pages on Sunday… continuing a story I don’t even know if anyone reads or cares about or finds interesting… but that’s okay! A new story MIGHT start in September! Anyway, I’ve been told by other artists this is completely normal. And in fact I’m not that sad. It’s nice to finish something! I have a lot of things I want to finish!

The next thing I am planning to finish is Ephraim’s Story. So perhaps you will see some chapters of that going up. I have to be careful because I have Provincials to practice for. And after that organ to practice like crazy.

Also I have completely fallen in love (again) with Eric Beaudry’s voice. I’d marry that voice. srsly.

Leslie never forgot how that music made her feel – all excited and relaxed at the same time, as the songs grew more and more lyrical, peaceful, and happy. But she could never remember how it sounded. (falls asleep on chair…)

And music happens with some trite totally cliché’d voiceover narrator. The colouring went better this week, but I coloured in some of the wrong squares in the blanket so I had to fix it in Photoshop. Boring page, I know. But come Sunday for the shocking conclusion!

Flairé: The conclusion is shocking?

Yes! It is! Weren’t you there?

Flairé: I… yeah…

Flaria: And now, time for some music!

Flairé: Yeah!

Flairé: And I’ll need my pipe, and my… whistle? and those drums, and the guitar…

Flaria: wouldja shut up for two seconds together?

Ever get the feeling they’re siblings? LOL. So yeah, now they’re going to play some music. Not much else to say. Except that for some reason when I was inking my hand was sliding all over the place so there are some weird smudges everywhere and I’m not really happy with anyone’s face except for Flairé and Leslie’s in the bottom panel. And Flairé’s supposed to have a stool, but I forgot to draw it. Oh well. He’ll have one on Wednesday. Also, this page has answered a question that many people – me – were asking about Deerfleet – does Deerfleet have pants? The answer seems to be YES HE DOES. Mystery solved!

Omigosh, only two more pages left! These last days have just whizzed by. I’ll be done soon!

In other news, we have lost our dear, beloved conductor Janos Sandor, who just retired from 15 years of conducting the UVic and GVYO orchestras. He died of cancer on Friday. He was always cheerful and upbeat, and an amazing musician. Everyone loved him. We will miss him terribly.

Leslie: I know… I should get more sleep at night.

Jen: You should! ; D Just teasing. We’ve been over this before. Anyway, maybe you can come here to unwind sometimes now! (Leslie: nod nod)

Flaria: If the frequency by which I’ve seen you and Esgalwen here is any indication, your nice friend will be here very often.

Flairé: You have to want to come, you know. Once you know the way, it’s easy, it seems.

Jen: That’s right!

Hey, it’s a page! I think I kind of overdid it with the warm comforting reds. : P And the walls are still mostly grey, so it… yeah. I can only assure you that it looks different in person.

So, yes. A page about people eating and talking about sleeping.

Flairé: Yes, indeed we are, sister! Do you have food?

Flaria: Oh, Flairé, just look at these rips and tears… Do you know how long it will take me to fix that? Continue reading

The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: You’re Still Here!

Jalril is waiting beside a glorified hole in the ground in a swamp.

Jen: Jalril! You’re still here!

Jalril: I am. You are unhurt, all of you?

Flairé: Never better. Let’s get away from here, though.

They ride off into relatively blue skies, if not sunshine.

What, you expect SUNSHINE in the Pacific Northwest? Fat chance! lol, actually it was pretty sunny out yesterday. I should know. I went shopping all over town.

I hope I never have to draw swamps again. Or forest roads. I’m soooo bad at them and they just annoy me. The hillside was supposed to be lush and green but I fell into the same kind of mistake that I make with my mini bases and made it mostly dirt instead. Blah. But isn’t Deerfleet cute? I adore Deerfleet. He’s just a kid.
