Father?

Father?

This picture is my best so far. As in, up until Dec 23 ’05. It’s even shaded, so it looks a little 3D! This day, according to my sketchbook, was the day on which we did a Lord of the Rings marathon. We watched 5 discs.

I still didn’t have the hang of shading faces yet, and I still don’t know how to do clothes. I like the cloak very much, though! But the hands need to be bigger. At least they look like hands!

Mask of Darkness to the Island of Dreams: Chapter 6

Chapter 5     Chapter 7

Chapter 6

The next day, Link went to the shop and bought a bow. It wasn’t as good as his old one, but it would do until he could find or make a better one. Thus armed, he went exploring to the east past Kanelet Castle, scouting out the land to see if he could get to the mysterious village Marin had hinted about. The river flowed deep and fast, and he hesitated to dive in.
He found a cave, and it didn’t smell like monsters, and no monster noises came out of it, so he went in with a makeshift torch he had fashioned out of wood and old cloth and magic powder. The tunnel got very tight at one point, and he could hear water trickling all around him, but it was not a dead end. The exit put him on the other side of the river, and Link smiled.
“I wonder if I could make an easier way for Marin to cross,” he wondered out loud. “Well, at least there is one safe-ish way.”
He set off on the well-travelled path south, and it soon bent to the left. There was a large sign overhanging the road that said ‘Animal Village’.
Link blinked at the sign and stepped forward.
Five white rabbits, a blue baby bear, and a small raven rushed up to him, and stopped, their faces showing disappointment.
“…” Link stared at them. He had met talking monkeys, but never talking rabbits… if they could talk. “…Hello?”
Two rabbits turned back to him and smiled politely. “I’m sorry, stranger. We thought Little Marin had come.”
“Oh. I’m a friend of Marin. I just arrived on the island. She was going to come, but the bridge is gone.”
“Yes, monsters got it. I don’t know where they came from! Anyway, what’s your name?”
“I’m Link.”
“Pleased to meet you. Are you a swordfighter?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Wow! We’ve never met a swordfighter before.” Continue reading

Link

Look at me, I have pointy ears

Look at me, I have pointy ears

I drew Link again, in my mini-sketch book. That’s about all I have to say about this picture, except that it’s actually sort of shaded. It doesn’t look so good, but don’t laugh! It’s my first step on the next section of the path to greatness! Or something…

Evylyin

Uh-huh?

Uh-huh?

I imagined something different for Evylyin’s hair, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, both times.. Hey, why are the girls in Dragon Booster all ‘toothpick’ girls? Everyone seems bizarrely angular and thin. And please, really, why do the ‘dragons’ look like dinosaurs? I’ve said this before, I know… it just bugs me every time.

Evylyin Rouz and Dymunde

Farm-girl in the big city

Farm-girl in the big city

At about this time, Kevin discovered a rather nifty little TV series called Dragon Booster. The premise is that there are dragons and humans, and now-a-days, the humans control the dragons, and they’re all different colours (the dragons) and they used to be gold, and now they’re not except for one.

The hero’s dragon is gold, and that’s why he’s the hero. Now he has to learn how to be a hero instead of a teenager. Tall order, I’d say. And he has to stop the ‘dragon/human war’ that his father’s childhood rival is trying to start, and dodge his own rival in the bargain (who happens to be the son of his father’s rival…).

So this is my dragon rider, Evylyin Rouz, and the spelling is wonky because everyone has nutty names in that world. Well, since when is Mordred spelled Moordrydd? Oh, wait, I think I talked about this before. Just a little bit. Anyhow, Evylyin and Dymunde were coloured with markers. Not Crayola, but I forget what they’re called. She’s from a small town called Grenoble, and they’re a bit odd there compared to the Dragon City hot-shots. For instance, each dragon can only work in the field it is most suited for. Like white dragons work at the ski hill. And red work at forges. And blues fish.

The Princess and Curdie Poster

Happy ending before it starts

Happy ending before it starts

This is a movie poster for a lovely little novel called “The Princess and Curdie” which is actually the second of two. The first is called “The Princess and the Goblin”, and it’s just as sweet. They’re obviously fairytales, written by a guy called George Macdonald. And I made a movie poster for the second one. It’s supposed to be in the castle, and the marble floors are shiny, and the rug thing at the bottom is red.

Zela Small Family Portrait

We should have dressed up a bit more... at least Mom let her hair down

We should have dressed up a bit more… at least Mom let her hair down

Yes, one of my faceless pictures. Hey, I think it works, and even looks good sometimes. Family portrait of the first four members of Zela’s family. The other five I didn’t have character designs yet for. Though, I did write their names on the side, in preparation… and it looks like wise Bayn has his name as Bayn-nu. Well, I don’t know. Anyway, Zela’s got her hair loose for once, and the pose sort of works, but their feet all look stupid. And Flairé must be shy about his hands or something.

Zela’s height

My ability to draw bad guys is still very, very poor

My ability to draw bad guys is still very, very poor

This picture is of the varying heights of different people in Zela’s world. Some of them don’t exist anymore, not because they went extinct, but because now they weren’t yet created. Us, for example. Anyway, the hulk on the left is Sicassa, spelled Menad Sicaca. Ugh, inconsistant c. Then there’s Lyrilna’s head. He’s a giant snake, and I mean giant. I don’t know where he lives, but it’s believed that he’s actually Zela’s grandson in some fashion. It will all be explained in good time, or even earlier if you keep your wits about you. Then there’s Zela, good old 7′ tall. I think they’ve actually been growing, because a recent picture of Flairé made him to be about 9′ tall.
Flairé: We have different feet, so we’re 7′ tall in our measurement. Yeah, that works.
And then there’s a tall human. The Hero-type, right? Height confers nobility? And finally a short fat human. With a thick neck and a small head. -_- On purpose, though.

Zela

Graceful and tall

Graceful and tall

This is a nice picture of Zela because it is shaded: hooray! I like it a lot, and her stick-like fingers are quite good. And her spine is there, and folds in her skirt, and her hair is all right.

Kalmaeiric Bathing Pool

Shower time

Shower time

The waterfall here is the best and worst part of the picture… no, it’s the best part. It’s supposed to be the place where the women of the castle of the moon come to have a shower and swim and stuff. There are supposed to be trees – that’s what the things with dotted lines are supposed to be. It will be better when I do a follow up one of these years. Meh.
