FFXIV: The Sleeping Emperor

Oh my gosh this chapter went long. At first I had my hands full with this catboy trying to turn everything into The R’nyath Show but since this is basically his chapter to protagonize eventually I let him have his way. Lots of cameos of my game friends, and a few retainers/OCs to make up the balance! I hope it’s not too overwhelming!

I’m excited to get back to MSQ next chapter!

Chapter 11: Life in Mor Dhona

Chapter 12: The Sleeping Emperor

The lead-up to the tower was a massive, mysterious facility that they had been briefed as being titled the Labyrinth of the Ancients. The ceiling seemed malms away, the walkways leaping over what looked like lava, but R’nyath really didn’t have time to look about. The resident monsters came at them in waves, and he had his hands full watching out for R’inwa and taking in Kekeniro’s orders. Kekeniro had set up a linkshell to relay his directions to the entire group, though he mostly referred to the team leaders when calling out. “I’m seeing several succubi and a Valefor up ahead. Achiyo’s team will take the Valefor, and Chuchupa and Vivienne’s teams will deal with the succubi. Try to draw them away from the Valefor so we don’t get interference.” Kekeniro had pretty good eyesight for a bookworm, R’nyath considered. Continue reading

I Know You’re Out There Somewhere: Chapter 15

Okay, NOW Esgalwen’s Story is done. Haha! Now it’s 72,866 words long. : P This part is essentially the same as it was before, with a few words added here and there. For the new stuff, click back to Chapter 14 and read the first scene. : D

I really want to get Netflix and watch those TV shows I’ve been wanting to watch. : P

I Know You’re Out There Somewhere: Chapter 14

Well.

It’s over. After a year of waiting, I wrote the end for you. And maybe it’s not the ending that it could be. But at least it is AN ending, and now if I want to revise it, it will be easier to make sense of. Speaking of revisions, I haven’t forgotten anyone’s comments/criticisms, and I want to thank everyone for making comments/criticisms, and I’ll definitely be taking them all into account when/if I get around to revising.

I am not sure where to put the first scene in this. It feels like a scene that goes in the middle of a chapter. But there isn’t really room in the flow of the story to move it. That’ll be another thing to revise. :3 This chapter took two days to write, and is approximately 8100 words long (out of a total of approximately 69,600). The only part that I had written previously was the part about sandwiches, and the death of the spacedragon.

If you want to read from the beginning before you read this new chapter, here’s a link to Chapter 1 for ye. If you’re just looking for your cameo character, everyone gets several minutes in this one, except Marcus, who is ded-ded-dedy-permaded. I might turn around and throw in a reference to him later, or I might not. I haven’t really decided yet. But thanks everyone for letting me borrow their characters; they were super helpful to have around and I’d be glad to see them again.

Hope you enjoyed this story in all its rough-draft glory. I’m glad to have written it.

EDIT: After adding the scene with Torrigan, this chapter grew to truly monster proportions, so there is now a link to Chapter 15 at the bottom of the page!

Boys at the Bar, Part 1

So. Tharash was feeling mopey, and Gullac’s innuendo wasn’t helping… so instead, Gullac decided to drag everyone out to the bar to get them sloshing drunk and send some of them home with girls (not Avarron, since Nari would murder everyone involved if that happened). Even though Gullac hates Tharash for making him look less crazy than he did previously. (He’s coping. He’s playing up his debonair side to make up for it.) Flairé came because Tharash is his friend, and Avarron came to make sure nothing blew up, because getting an overpowered chaos mage hammered is not really a good idea if you want your pub to keep standing.

So here they all are, sitting around the table… Tharash has a glass of whiskey, and there are three more bottles waiting – Gullac was somewhat overly generous – and Avarron has a glass of stout and Gullac has a glass (and bottle) of red wine, and Flairé has a daquiri (with a curly straw). But he’s going to help with the whiskey as soon as he’s done the daquiri.

In actual fact, Tharash was drunk and off to bed relatively quickly. Flairé went with to help him get home safe (although he travelled by rift, so who knows where they actually ended up). Gullac and Avarron stayed to chat, and Gullac finished the rest of the alcohol (no mean feat, you have to admit). There were some girls, but they didn’t go home with anyone.

But I am going to draw a picture of the bar exploding too, because that’d be funny. :3 Even if it didn’t actually happen.

Flaria and Tharash

So I got a comment on this picture of Flaria and Tharash, from Yllamse, saying “Do I even want to know? XD” so I thought I would answer that in rather too much detail. :3

Flaria’s been a Tharash fangirl for a while – somehow, he caught her eye, even with his ragamuffin scruffiness (generally she goes for clean boys…). Then she found out that he could use big impressive words to describe space and time and metaphysics and magic, which led to melodramatic swooning on her part. He, on the other hand, doesn’t know what to do with her since she clearly likes him (whut?) and isn’t afraid of him (and his potentially world-destroying powers) (wow!). She calls him ‘the adorascruffy voidmage!’ when she isn’t calling him ‘Tharash-dear’. Continue reading

Tharash

Tharash Kaern, void-mage, philosopher, rifter, lunatic, explorer, chaos mage, and all-round troublemaker, showing some skillz in the void. Background stock from here. A few things of the painting… the shading was very, very lazy – I basically just made a soft-light layer, filled it in with dark grey, and erased bits. And then added more soft-light layers. lowered the saturation on pretty much everything except the magic swirlies and the background. The strange lightening stuff between the two balls of light was created by splashing around some clouds in pale blue and then dark grey, upping the contrast (and sometimes brightening) beyond some sanity and then copy-pasting the bit I liked using the selecting-brush tool (which auto-feathers the edges, yay) and pasting at 74% opacity. Also I only had one mug of tea while painting this. Also in the background is one of these brushes. In the foreground, the yellow flecks are from this brush-pack. There! I think I’ve credited everyone. : )
