zelacolav100Helloooooo!!! I posted a picture. Actually, two pictures. Isn’t that exciting?

These were actually drawn by my Dad on a blank cardboard box that came inside a cereal box. I forget what kind of cereal. Some vaguely health-oriented cereal. Nature’s Path type cereal. I’m not sure. Go buy some healthy cereals until you find one with two blank boxes inside. It won’t hurt you, anyway. I think these pictures are hilarious, but then I laugh at a lot of things.

Maybe I’ll have more actual pictures for you tomorrow!

Soooo… what to talk about. There’s a lot that’s happened since January. I got into Performance at UVic!!! Woot! So now I have to start acting like it. I’m now learning the Waldstein Sonata by Beethoven, the Franck Variations Symphoniques again (going to enter the Concerto Competition next year) and Liszt’s La Campanella, as a study etude, not a performance etude. I’m also learning the 2-3 part Inventions/Sinfonias just so that I know them, although May Ling says I could play three or four of them as one selection. I am supposed to be looking for a couple other pieces (Dutilleaux Sonata for piano, Liebermann Gargoyles) but I haven’t gotten to the library yet. :P

Also, Festival went well… I played a solo recital and it went well except for the Buxtehude… I turned pages for the Best Concert Evar (Duruflé’s Requiem + a whole bunch of motets an’ stuff) and made a new friend while doing it – the organist, who is awesome. And he lives in Vancouver and he collects swords. And tonight I’m going to be playing the Duruflé Sanctus in a wedding. It’s one of the more difficult movements, but fortunately the choir director is taking it a lot slower than Peter Butterfield (the ‘other’ Butterfield brother, ftw).

Also, as you’ve probably noticed, I’ve started running frequently. I want to be a bit slimmer before I go and buy new jeans to replace the ones I have, which are getting all ripped up for no reason at all. Blah.

Exciting weekend! I went to Vancouver on Thursday to play the Creston saxophone concerto (orchestral reduction) for my saxophonist in a terribly prestigious masterclass (Eugene Rousseau from the Paris Conservatoire comes to Van every year, apparently) and I got to see a bunch of friends (including the organist) whom I haven’t seen in some time. Although L is, I think, still in Taiwan. :( I hope to see her at some point this summer. That would be nice. I should really go to Van more often and get to know the city a bit better. And see folks, yeah. So far I just know the 99 bus route (sorta not really) and the area around Bard on the Beach, where my grand-aunt lives. Organist says they’re doing Othello this year, so I think I should go because I don’t know anything about Othello but it’s supposed to be important. Oh, and I drew pictures of all Zela’s family on the ferry in my new super-mini-sketchbook. They turned out well, mostly. Zela and Flaer (although he has shoulders too broad) and Flaria especially came out well.

I’m not really composing at the moment, but I do have the idea I want to write some organ variations on Ash Grove. My brother says he’ll go insane – he knows it too well already.

Oh, dear. Mom just this minute got me interested in Irish dancing, because she went to Courtenay this last week on a working vacation and her temporary boss watches Britain’s Got Talent and showed her some guy called Stavros Flatley who parodies Riverdance, so then I watched some Riverdance to see what was going on and now I am a Riverdance fan. Um. This is interesting too.

There are probably a zillion other things to say, but they’re either old or ultimately even less interesting than these, so I’ll save them for now. Tomorrow I will try to update again, with some actual drawings! That would be cool.

I went running. I thought maybe I would be faster than usual, but in the end I was no faster than usual. Except… I got from my house to the golf course parking lot a few minutes ahead of schedule. I must have gone slower up the last hill or something.

I’ve made my plans for Thursday’s trip to Vancouver… now I just have to practice the piece I’ll be playing there.

I linked to this place recently and then realized I was going to change the index page address to something else. Well, I have music practice to do now, so I’ll have to do that later. I’m also planning to clean off my desk today, as it’s covered in important junk and video games and just plain old stuff.

I took a look at In the Shadows Beyond This World for the first time in ages, and I did write a little bit of it, but not enough to put anything up. I need to play a bit of it first to get myself back in the groove. Looking forward to it. Maybe next week. But I did find the Zelda wiki and discovered an interesting fact; the secret ending of Link’s Awakening DX has a picture of Marin, right? And then there’s a seagull behind her, right? I never noticed the seagull, but apparently fans believe perhaps she got her wish and the Wind Fish turned her into a seagull. So I think this is a fantastic idea and I’m going to have to tweak the ending of MoDttIoD just a tiny bit. Whoohoo.

Chocolate milk time!

X-wings and running

Today was a good day… I slept in, practiced Duruflé on the organ at the church it will be played in (went well, although registration changes are tricky because the pistons don’t respond right away. Ugh.), practiced a bunch of piano, and went for a run. I also played two hours of KOTOR II, repaired HK-47, and finished re-reading my X-wing comics. Glee! I just realized today that I haven’t re-read the X-wing novels by Mike Stackpole since buying the comics. I should do that; it will add dimensions to the books. Also, the John Nadeau/Jordi Ensign team is the best X-wing comic artist team. The guys drawing Masquerade, Mandatory Retirement, and especially Requiem for a Rogue are the worst. They can’t draw Wedge at ALL. (cringe)

Sooo… what was I going to say? I think I said it. Well, today I did a loop and a half of the golf course. That’s the first time I’ve done that. I’m tired, but not as tired as my brother who went too hard and was only able to do one lap. (victory dance? nah – he’s still better than me – just more clueless)

Also, if you find any dead links on this site, please tell me so I can fix them. They should be all right, but I changed a few things halfway through so some of them may be wrong. In other site news, I put up all the writing junk except for two short pieces that I can’t find posting dates for. I’ll do that soon. I also realized that I really should finish my Zelda/FE fanfiction and get it out of the way. But it’s not really high priority right now. I’ll take a look at it this week and see what I feel like doing this summer. I will also start trying to get pictures up again, like this site is intended to show.

I was going to practice more, but I ran out of time. I practiced mostly Franck. Didn’t have time to get to the silly Creston. Which is better than it’s ever been but not really up to speed. Ummm… I hope it gets up to speed by Friday. Which reminds me, I need to make a plan for transportation. I will do that now.

X-wings forever!

Running June 11

Sooooo… I went running again. I managed to miss yesterday and the day before, and today ought to be my day off, but since I had days off previously I decided today would be a good day to run. Although I did run all the way to work yesterday.

It took me less time than usual today. I wonder if I’m pushing myself too hard or just getting better already. It would be nice to think I’m getting better already. Although I was rather tired today. Maybe I just pushed myself hard. Blah. And the insatiable desire to nom peanut butter can’t be helping.

I need new running gear – I don’t have enough. I need: at least one more pair of socks, another running bra, and new shoes because my current shoes do double duty on the trail and at work and they are getting filthy. Mostly from work. So I will get shiny new shoes and it will be great. But I don’t want to spend the money right now… Well, maybe just a pair of shoes. That way I can still afford to buy normal clothes when school starts again. I need two new pairs of jeans and random new tops. Including hopefully a black concert top with long sleeves.

Why am I talking about clothes? I sound like a featherbrain.

Hello! I went running again. Long run. Thought I was tired from work and piano practice but afterwards I had enough physical energy to feel like another half lap. I didn’t, though. I swept the driveway instead.
