The Totally Not Canon Adventures of Flairé: Episode 1: Lost Blackbird: Page 28: You’re Still Here!

Jalril is waiting beside a glorified hole in the ground in a swamp.

          Jen: Jalril! You’re still here!

Jalril: I am. You are unhurt, all of you?

Flairé: Never better. Let’s get away from here, though.

They ride off into relatively blue skies, if not sunshine.

What, you expect SUNSHINE in the Pacific Northwest? Fat chance! lol, actually it was pretty sunny out yesterday. I should know. I went shopping all over town. I bought Philosophy textbooks, and then I went downtown and bought two new pairs of jeans because my old ones have weird waistlines and strange rub marks in odd places, like the inside of the knees, and then I bought the Oracle of Seasons/Ages manga (don’t tell my bro) and then I bought some organ music (expensive Vierne ftw!) and then I bought Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon so that I won’t have to (make anyone) go to a huge hassle to get it for me.

…But this isn’t about the comic, which is what YOU want to hear about, right? And WHY IT’S EARLY OMIGOSH. Well, at the beginning of June, I’m going to Ottawa to see the extended family, including a brand new cousin. So I figured I should up the schedule to twice a week. The second page of the week will come when it’s finished. …I know, I know, I could just use the auto-uploader. But I’d still have to FINISH the pages early. …I’m really good at getting sidetracked, aren’t I.

I hope I never have to draw swamps again. Or forest roads. I’m soooo bad at them and they just annoy me. The hillside was supposed to be lush and green but I fell into the same kind of mistake that I make with my mini bases and made it mostly dirt instead. Blah. But isn’t Deerfleet cute? I adore Deerfleet. He’s just a kid.

Piano/organ practice time!!

P.S. I also want to buy SSBB and Sims 3, but they weren’t at either of the stores I checked. I hope they haven’t run out of Brawl. That would be a tragedy.

          Leslie: Deerfleet?

Jen: A really nice young guy. He wants to be a warrior like Flairé, but he’s not very good yet. Like me. (Jalril is shiny and serene, with a baby griffon curled up at his feet sleeping) Nice dress, by the way.

Leslie: Thanks! Flairé got it for me.

Jen: Anyway, shall we go? We have to make sure Flairé’s all right.

Leslie: If he’s not all right, aren’t we in trouble?

Jen: O_O This is true. (runs up stairs) Flaaaaaiiiiiréee!!

Hi! I’m very pleased with the way Jalril turned out. And look he has a widdle baby griffon with him! Leslie is somewhat perturbed by my hyper good cheer.

Darn. I forgot the flowers in the grass.

If you take a look at the sidebar, you’ll have no doubt noticed that I have decided to participate in Script Frenzy (the April NaNoWriMo, after a fashion – only this is to write 100 pages of script in 30 days!). You may even have noticed that it’s going to be about Flairé. Maybe you will panic, thinking that I’m going to abandon this current comic. Well, fear not. This one I will be sticking with to the end (which is in about ten more pages). But I do have plans for sequels, and while I will be taking a break between episodes to recuperate the old creative abilities (and maybe to improve my art? maybe?) I do want to continue this project.

My brother is also going to do maybe his own private Script Frenzy for an opera libretto.

The Script Frenzy website, by the way, is well worth visiting if only for the plot generator on the front page.

Anyway, I also found out that I need to start working on the Sword’s Innocence novel – the deadline for a free copy from CreateSpace is beginning of June (when I’ll be in ON, anyway).

Teachers: don’t stress too much. I’ll start working on all this writing stuff AFTER CLASSES. While searching for a summer job. And learning new repertoire. : P Festival next month, too. Ah, well, time to finish memorizing the concerto.

Deerfleet

Eeee, it’s young Deerfleet. Still not quite right, but very, very close. Cutie. I’m afraid he looks too much like a Japanese kalma, and indeed certain images were an inspiration for the hair and clothes, but he’s in the end just supposed to look Griffon-land-ish. Maybe his eyes should be less tilted. Tilted is a North-Eastern thing! Hence Zela’s eyes. Except Tam is North-Eastern, and has straight eyes…

Maybe tilted eyes are a rare thing that randomly pops up. Because, you know, I have the idea that the Dragonlanders are all lean wiry folks with straight eyes, and they were previously my biggest candidate pool for tilted eyes. The Griffonlanders were next, but maybe, looking at the picture above, they’d just look like black Japanese people. Or Native American. Both of which are sort of accurate but too stereotypical for my liking. I’m not trying to be ‘politically correct’ and include everyone for ‘political correctness’; I’m trying to include everyone because to the kalmaei, things like skin colour and eye shape, nose shape, lip shape, ear shape, height, etc., aren’t even glanced at. Except as a different manifestation of beauty. And including stereotypes of human peoples would be completely contrary to my goal.

Ah, continuity! : P

And if anyone’s offended by the above commentary on some of my thought processes, I can only shrug because I don’t think I said anything insulting. Though if you have an even more harmless way of putting it, share it! : )

Back to school today! I have piano… and more piano… and more piano… and more piano… and choir.

Christmas in colour 2009 (finished!)

Christmas in Colour, 2009, finished!

(570)

And now, the finished picture! Ehhhhh… I actually used the tablet a lot less with the shading/highlighting. I used it a lot for the hair, of course, but the clothes… just didn’t work with that. I need to find a way to change the settings so the harder I press doesn’t affect the width of the stroke, but how dark/light it is.

Parts I’m pleased with: Marteth’s dark purple coat; Gullac’s teal shirt; Bayn’s grey jacket. Coincidentally, they’re the ones you can see least of. : P Tam’s jacket is a close second, though. His shoulders came out half-way decent. I’m also happy with all the hair and Flairé’s face, which was worrying me. Doesn’t he look like his parents? X D

I realize that the ink lines only get in the way now. I think I will experiment in the future with not having hard lines at all. With the tablet, I can do that now!

I’m collecting Candy-cane shards in Guild Wars so I can get the Candy-cane daggers (for Gullac, when I make him) and the Peppermint Scythe (because it’s cool). I already have a Candy-cane spear. I wonder if these weapons break if you use them too much? I don’t think so. But I’m a little nervous about actually using them in battle.

Gullac: I’m not! (sproings around like a frog, brandishing his daggers and laughing insanely)

Dude, I haven’t gotten them yet. Give me another hour.

Christmas in colour ’09 – still WIP

Wheeee! Still lovin’ that tablet. And the pillow. The pillow worked splendidly. This is my progress for today. Tomorrow I will colour skin, and the comic, which will go up instead, and then Monday I will do clothes. O_O7 And then I will figure out how to shade all the white areas, like Yoeath. Leslie, Flairé, and Rana’s hair is the best of this picture. I had to restart my computer before my tablet would work, though.

If you want a hilarious story, go buy Star Wars: Battlefront: Elite Squadron for Gameboy DS now, because the story is laughable. Ummmm… it’s the story of this Gary-Stu (= unrealistically perfect) clone who’s half-Jedi because the Kaminoians stole some DNA from a visiting Jedi and plunked it into two clones, and the player is one of them. He fights for the Republic, meets his father, questions his life, gets shot by his Empire-loyal brother, their father Grey tries to convert Empire brother, thinks he succeeds, and totally gets shot in the back. Then, “15 years later”, this Gary-Stu of a clone is in command of Grey Squadron of the fledgling Rebel Alliance. And cloney-boy pwns everything in his path while… a) chasing after the Death Star’s laser, which is en route to the Death Star, and he captures the transport, and… the Death Star still gets a laser. What the heck!? b) defends Yavin Base from Imps who magically show up inside the base, where there are no Rebels, and then finds and destroys a jamming device that magically prevents X-wings from taking off. Again: what the heck?! c) flies into space and is in the trench(!!?!) behind Darth Vader who is behind Luke. My brother just flew into towers and didn’t exactly help. So what kind of support was he supposed to provide? At the moment, he’s on Hoth, where they had to defend the Rebel base from Imps BEFORE going out and engaging them in the icy plains canyons. Where he takes a speeder there and then jumps out to fight on foot.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA that’s the lamest story I’ve heard in a long time.

Oh, and Kota shows up for a cameo. And we’re pretty sure cloney-boy becomes a Jedi at some point because you can play as a Jedi, I think, in some parts, so the story’s gotta include it somewhere. We’re hoping he dies gloriously because we think he’s a twit. X D    X D    X D    This story is, like, worse than the new Kyle Katarn games. Oh, and there’s a love interest named Sharra. (facepalm) Whatever.
