Oooh, it’s a painting! Not Photoshop, but Corel Painter. I was messing around with it, trying to see if I could get it to work. I think I did. In a rudimentary fashion, anyway.

One new thing I tried was highlighting from two different light sources. Well, that’s rather fancy talk for what I really did. I just highlighted from a neutral light source, then applied the blue layer and added orange highlight on one side - for the fire - and white on the other - for the moon. It’s a little bit too subtle but too much looked really bad.

The attitude turned out pretty good, though.

I painted this while listening to The Kilforna Set from the Chieftains Album Water in the Well. Great tunes!

Am beginning my recital poster as soon as I post this.

Hey, I need a pianist to sub for me at a short and rather informal choral concert on Sunday. It’s only an hour long with an hour long rehearsal beforehand; good pay and transportation provided. Comment or email me if interested and available and dwelling in Victoria! : P

zelaavatarsm2I was bored or something and drew a quick sketch of Flairé with limbs that are much too long. …And that’s all I have to say.

My brother found a set of sketches that I made of a pair of adventure game characters… the Connell siblings from two of RinkWorks’ Adventure Games Live. Kenneth Connell, from the spacey “The Perils of Akumos”, and his sister Karla Connell, from the college sci-fi “Trail of Anguish”. I guess I’d better put those up. But they’re really old and ugly. Well, maybe not. But the pictures are old.

I’m going to an organist thingy today. …And that’s all I have to say there too.

Kate Beaton is still fabulously random. And I just found a comic about Romans. Yay!

Also a fantastic comic about vampires and the French Revolution. Bite Me. I mean, Woot.

linkhomeicon Esgalwen! Small, quite anime-faced, but very cute all the same. Slim, with long black hair, and a playful glance back, this is how her husband first saw her, dancing at one of those famous parties in Mirkwood once. Though I don’t think she looked quite this young. Anyway. No shoes! Oh yeah, and she’s dancing to the Enya song Carribean Blue which is very dancable. It’s in 3/4.

So I’m happy with this picture. Yay!

Yesterday one of the girls at work gave me four cinnamon buns (I asked for them) and she wrapped them all in different coloured paper. I guess she was as bored as I was. Still, I appreciate it!

My brother is reorganizing his room. Fall cleaning and all that. ’s gonna be fantastic for him. Me, I don’t bother going in there. That’s his territory. Now if only he realized that about my room…

If you check back at midnight something vaguely exciting will happen.

Onwards!

kentsainhorsesicon This picture was inspired by the ever-popular Danzon #2 by a certain composer named Marquez. It is fantastic and should be danced to the world over. It’s so fabulous Flairé and Flaria danced to it and I tried to draw their halting, lilting, sometimes (in Flairé’s case, anyway,) twitchy dance movements or, as here, gliding, lilting, whirling, intricate dance movements. In their style of dance, there is a lot of expression with the shoulders as well as the hips and feet. There is more I could say, but I’d need a lot more room. A lot more room while I hash out different ideas and try to get down what I think about various different styles. Like they have certain leg extensions like in ballet, but they dance in circles that appear heavily choreographed (there’s no caller, and it just weaves in and out and spirals like crazy), or they dance in couples, and in that, both genders lead for different parts, and there’s a lot that resembles acrobatics (like helping your partner up so s/he can do a flip over your head and stuff like that) and then there’s single dancing, which has even more acrobatics like standing on one hand and handsprings and wild spins. Though that’s more for the fast ones. The slow ones sometimes you’re lucky to catch anyone moving. Well, not quite, but they do move awfully slowly. They move less acrobatically and with more focus on beautiful positions and reaching with their long limbs.

In this picture, they’re doing a sort of lilting, exaggerated moon-walk, mirroring each other. Although that makes me think of Leahy’s The French, which is one of Flairé’s more favourite lilty dances. Whoo.

That video is great, by the way. Gustavo Dudamel is just surrounded by a SEA of strings. And that’s not even counting the ranks of winds and brass and the percussion team! I first heard it played by the UVic orchestra, and that’s where I fell in love with it.

I overused the word ‘lilt’ today, didn’t I?

I need to dance more. I’m a blob. Ick.

I’m not very good at keeping suspense up to a climax, I don’t think. We’ll see. Half-done the first half of the first battle in Chapter 7. Very actiony chapter. Needs more plot. Hmmm. …And I forgot what else I was going to say. Oh! Yesterday I drew some Eliwood/Ninian fanart. First I’ve done of either of them in a long long time. Drawn to the tune of ‘Stars and Midnight Blue’ from Enya’s ‘And Winter Came’ CD. I think it would look gorgeous coloured in an iridescent, shiny, glossy fashion. I’d go look for an example, but then I would get stuck looking at pictures on DeviantArt and I’d never get anything done.

Four more days of work!

Sorry for the long wait! I am back now, and I’ll update more frequently than once every two months now.

Today’s picture is of Howl and Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle. I think this picture came out well; it feels more than two-dimensional. Of course, his face is completely off.

I thought I had a lot to say, but I don’t really… over the past two months, I failed to get into either a Performance major or a Composition major, I played well enough in Festival, I recorded my concerto, I obtained recordings of both Chorus concerts this year, I discovered Mystery Science Theatre 3000, Star Trek The Next Generation, and Bruce Lee, and I just picked 14 inchworms off of my little brother who went running down at the golf course. I also discovered that I don’t know where a certain file is, of a card I drew in November and scanned because even though I found it slightly embarrassing, I like to keep records of all my pictures. I’m also wavering between completely on top of things and so far sunk that I have no idea how to start recovering.

flaericonMore marker! Flairé finds this a typical position, I think. That’s actually a pretty small drum, really… Ooh, and he has his whistle-flute!

Hmm, not much to say today, except that I might have a new summer project. I’m not giving away much now, but suffice to say that I find it funny. Oh, and it has robotic frogs.

anneiconThis is Sothe from Fire Emblem 9, but I was inspired to draw this picture because of a clever little piece of fanfiction called One-Stringed Harp. Here, Sothe does his victory dance. “Thief Rules” apply. An amusing story, but with an apocapyptic climax. Woot.

There’s actually blood where there shouldn’t be.

flairelovelyrulesiconMy brother never ceases to make fun of this, but it’s actually a part of the kalma’eiric culture to dance on drums, occasionally throwing one’s primary instrument in the air. And her dress came out well, too.

elfinpenciliconOooh! Pretty! It’s Zela, doing stuff!

I like the one on the left, dancing. Her arms are a bit long… okay, they’re way too long, and her shoulder is too low. But, her pose in general is good, and her sketchy skirt is nice, and her face is just about perfect, and her hair is about three times as long as it usually is, but it’s so pretty… I think I was having a way-too-long-hair thing at this time; I mean, look at Flaer.

The one on the left contains a sort of design for a kalma’eiric violin. It looks a little silly to me now. And she’s wearing a shorter skirt for a change, and her hair is loose for a change… which is rather pretty as well. I like her sleeves the best of all, though. And I get to show off my terrible un-mastery of perspective, as well.

Today I found out that I didn’t know my piano teacher’s husband’s name. How embarrassing. And… uh… Oh, Michael M. liked my “variation on a not-too-original theme by J. Goldman”. Heehee. Tonight I couldn’t get the volume (dynamic, level of sound, loudness) I wanted in choir. Argh.

Also I practiced my super-clichéd Dracula Suite at First Met today. It’s interesting. They have a big organ.

sorencharlotteiconLinT! And now for the actual fanart the last two pictures were leading up to! I am really pleased with this, even though I tried drawing eyes at least twice and each time it spoiled it, so I left them out which is something I’ve done before, or since then, or something. I think they still look good. And it’s shaded! Decently! And they might be somewhat in proportion! Oh, yes, I am not ashamed of submitting this to the fanart contest - even though everyone else did much more fantastic art. Aja won, and Andrael placed as well, but I can’t remember which place. Colby hasn’t put up the fanart on her new site yet; she’s still dealing with the archives. Which, of course, are much more important! Whee!

I drew this in the airport for some reason. I can’t have been going to organ camp yet… oh, right, I was going to the Provincials, in… I forget where. Vernon? Prince George? I forget which one, but I’m leaning towards Prince George. If that’s it’s real name. My memory is terrible right now.

Though not for what happened on Saturday! I went to a six (total, with driving time) hour workshop for Via Choralis, and then I played piano for three whole hours like I’m supposed to in the first time since I decided to do three hours, and that’s about it. One person, to whom I mentioned Teen Angst, in a similar way to how I mentioned it a few pages ago, commented on the fact that I haven’t lost my sense of humour. Well, I was very happy right then, I was having a good time, and nothing was going wrong, so I need a sense of humour to make people not sorry for me! No feeling sorry for me! Rahr!

n.b. I am now at Oct 10 in currently, so I will try to fit more time in to catch up. Really. I’ll do several batches a day. I just finished an important assignment, so I might have a little tiny bit more time to work on this. Until the next important assignment comes up…
