zelacolav100Helloooooo!!! I posted a picture. Actually, two pictures. Isn’t that exciting?

These were actually drawn by my Dad on a blank cardboard box that came inside a cereal box. I forget what kind of cereal. Some vaguely health-oriented cereal. Nature’s Path type cereal. I’m not sure. Go buy some healthy cereals until you find one with two blank boxes inside. It won’t hurt you, anyway. I think these pictures are hilarious, but then I laugh at a lot of things.

Maybe I’ll have more actual pictures for you tomorrow!

Soooo… what to talk about. There’s a lot that’s happened since January. I got into Performance at UVic!!! Woot! So now I have to start acting like it. I’m now learning the Waldstein Sonata by Beethoven, the Franck Variations Symphoniques again (going to enter the Concerto Competition next year) and Liszt’s La Campanella, as a study etude, not a performance etude. I’m also learning the 2-3 part Inventions/Sinfonias just so that I know them, although May Ling says I could play three or four of them as one selection. I am supposed to be looking for a couple other pieces (Dutilleaux Sonata for piano, Liebermann Gargoyles) but I haven’t gotten to the library yet. :P

Also, Festival went well… I played a solo recital and it went well except for the Buxtehude… I turned pages for the Best Concert Evar (Duruflé’s Requiem + a whole bunch of motets an’ stuff) and made a new friend while doing it - the organist, who is awesome. And he lives in Vancouver and he collects swords. And tonight I’m going to be playing the Duruflé Sanctus in a wedding. It’s one of the more difficult movements, but fortunately the choir director is taking it a lot slower than Peter Butterfield (the ‘other’ Butterfield brother, ftw).

Also, as you’ve probably noticed, I’ve started running frequently. I want to be a bit slimmer before I go and buy new jeans to replace the ones I have, which are getting all ripped up for no reason at all. Blah.

Exciting weekend! I went to Vancouver on Thursday to play the Creston saxophone concerto (orchestral reduction) for my saxophonist in a terribly prestigious masterclass (Eugene Rousseau from the Paris Conservatoire comes to Van every year, apparently) and I got to see a bunch of friends (including the organist) whom I haven’t seen in some time. Although L is, I think, still in Taiwan. :( I hope to see her at some point this summer. That would be nice. I should really go to Van more often and get to know the city a bit better. And see folks, yeah. So far I just know the 99 bus route (sorta not really) and the area around Bard on the Beach, where my grand-aunt lives. Organist says they’re doing Othello this year, so I think I should go because I don’t know anything about Othello but it’s supposed to be important. Oh, and I drew pictures of all Zela’s family on the ferry in my new super-mini-sketchbook. They turned out well, mostly. Zela and Flaer (although he has shoulders too broad) and Flaria especially came out well.

I’m not really composing at the moment, but I do have the idea I want to write some organ variations on Ash Grove. My brother says he’ll go insane - he knows it too well already.

Oh, dear. Mom just this minute got me interested in Irish dancing, because she went to Courtenay this last week on a working vacation and her temporary boss watches Britain’s Got Talent and showed her some guy called Stavros Flatley who parodies Riverdance, so then I watched some Riverdance to see what was going on and now I am a Riverdance fan. Um. This is interesting too.

There are probably a zillion other things to say, but they’re either old or ultimately even less interesting than these, so I’ll save them for now. Tomorrow I will try to update again, with some actual drawings! That would be cool.

cedricav2I… Wow, that’s a lot of pictures. Which one is my favourite…I think he’s the one with two individual pictures of him, at the bottom right. These models were painted by me, and it took me, let’s see… about three years to complete, so they’re my longest taking unit. Of course, I’ve only done three units, and this is the largest. I’m working on some knights right now, and if I work hard (which I won’t) then I’ll maybe finish them in one year since I started them. New Record! I’m making a total map of the Star Wars Galaxy, but I only have about 178 systems, so I haven’t gotten very far.

cenirotirediconWell, I finished all the gallery sidebar links. The picture links I haven’t even started yet. Diligence is not a priority except in piano. And history (ugh)

The other big announcement is that I’m changing the official update schedule to that which it has been since I started school: whenever I have time and feel like it.

Right now I am sick, but I feel like it. So I’m not sure if I have time but I don’t care at this point.

When next I put up pictures, the picture shall be a Photoshop image. Of flamethrowers. Exciting. Maybe.

Then I’ll start posting my current sketchbooks.

I was going to say lots of things, but now I don’t feel like it anymore. Suffice to say that Flairé was in my dream last night, I asked some nice people to play something I wrote last year, and Star Wars Battlefront has taken over the house. Also the orchestral reduction for Prokofiev’s third piano concerto is very difficult, and I really like Knights of the Old Republic - but I wish they’d develop the Carth/female lead relationship more. Also I’m sleeping earlier and waking up earlier, and surviving at school without buying muffins and yogurt, and…. stuff. Oh. I’m practicing piano… diligently. Yes. I am. Which is good because I have a competition thing in about a week. And one of my pieces isn’t memorized yet. Okay, I’m going to go sniffle somewhere else now and clean stuff and practice. And eat.

zelaavatarsm2Okay, this dude is a generic Bretonnian archer that Kevin has way too much of to paint, so I made hiim nice and shiny. I’m pleased with this model. I just wish I could find my Bretonnian-on-vacation-in-Hawaii model.

I spend all my time sleeping. Sleep is nice.

Art contest! Take a look! Deadline extended to Dec 24!

cedricav2Kevin: My knights! Spray-painted silver, and then handpainted the rest of the way. I only have two because there were only two in the old boxed set, but I have about ten more in a large box that someone gave us, that also came with an opposing Lizardmen army. So I will paint them to join the unit soon.

I made peanut butter cookies, but there were only 28 so I want to make more next week.

esgalwenavatarJen: Today I slept in really late and my brother made peanut butter cookies. I am happy.

Although, I did dream I had a credit card that kept trying to make me pay about 100x more than I had to… I was buying a $10 pencil case (?) and the cashier said it said $1000. >_<7

Ooh, and look! I got off my lazy bum and finished the Horse chapter! Now if only I could do the same thing for my composition!

Also, I’m not updating in huge batches at a time even though I’m a week behind, because I am putting up my own Warhammer guys next, and they’re special. Special special, not like my lame sketches. (hugs elfs)

Bit of a hassle finding today’s picture. I searched under ‘bret’ and under ‘knights’ but I only found it under ‘kev’ because it was titled Kevin’s Desktop.

cedricav2Kevin: Well, it’s really Jen writing this, because Kevin is too busy to write anything here (like the fact he’s playing Star Wars Battlefront II…). Anyway, he wants to say that these are obviously his archers again, but this picture was taken later and they’re in a different formation. So, cool.

Also, we unpacked our videos at long last - VHS, you know, videotapes. Not DVDs. And we found the Kevin and Jennifer show (the first ten years of my life + the first five years of his) and the Material and Form show, a partially televised art course recorded at Emily Carr by some guy named Tom Hudson. It’s pretty nifty, and we both enjoy it a lot.

rinakoavatarJen: Today was wet out. I don’t like walking outside in the wet because there are drowned earthworms all over the sidewalk. Blech.

I think my brother has become more interested in Zela suddenly. (I think it’s because he was a character in the unrevised Book 2). This is rather encouraging, but still, when he doesn’t understand something, it’s like he refuses to understand and then we start screaming at each other. “It’s like this!” “But I don’t get that!” “It’s so obvious!” “No it’s not!” and so on and so on.

I really need to work on my Kalmairic grammar. This morning I decided that their worst ejaculation/expletive/swear word would be “I am not happy about this”, only in about two syllables. Probably something like infinitive present (this doesn’t exist, but I’m making it up!) of ‘be’ and ‘unhappy’ all mixed up, with some dropped sounds/vowels-and-or-consonants/syllables. Marked conveniently and correctly by apostrophes.

I need to work on my grammar because as soon as I do that, I can work on ‘generating’ words. After I have the language, I can name places in Zela’s world and then I can make a real map, and then the story will be written with sense.

I discovered an artist who likes drawing funny pictures. She draws pictures of the Alice-in-Wonderland/Mad Hatter pairing, and some LotR, and some Matrix, and some Pirates of the Caribbean, and one wonderful Harry Potter.

I don’t get half of the Matrix one, and it’s getting boring for me because my brother likes it so much, but Elrond in sunglasses is cool. I like the way she draws the twins.
