The Totally Not-Canon Adventures of Flairé: Episode 1: Lost Blackbird: Page 17: Dun Dun Dunnn!

Flairé: Flaria, be a sweetheart and grab me some travelling things, would you? I need to go look for Miss Leslie.

              Flaria: What’s happened?

Flairé: The extremists have snatched her out from under my very nose. They’re an alert gang… I’ll make sure they’re not so alert after tonight… |: (

Hey, guys! Colour will be up later! Obligations now.

Dun dun dunnn! : D

Oh, Happy Valentine’s. Also the Feast of St. Cyril and some other bloke who spread the Good News in Russia long ago.

Kitchens are hard. Flaria puts her hair in a braid when she’s working in ‘em. Good idea, no? And I’m not sure what Flairé does with those long dramatic laces on his gauntlets. I think he tucks them inside somewhere.

Determined Flairé is determined. And sexy. Imo.

We cooked all afternoon. It was crazy. Mom went insane for V-day and made Caeser salad (actually I did that part - anchovies are, like, pure salt) and chicken pot pies with pastry hearts and almond flavoured ice cream and heart shaped cookies. I got to decorate most of them (with pink icing) so I put lots of movie quotes. Like “As you wish”, “I know” (Han Solo), ”Someday my prince will come”, “Kiss de girl”, “So this is love”, ”INDYYYYY!” and “If music be the food of luv, play on”. My brother helped a lot, though he has forgotten Cinderella.

Also I watched a review of The Phantom Menace which is insightful and indepth, and hilarious, but has a LOT of swear words because the reviewer is pretending to be an ignoramus. But if you ever hear me saying “What’s wrong with your faaa~aaaace” it’s from that review because of the Nemodian with the wierd face implants. The one who says “They’ve gone up the ventilation shaft!” D : “How do you know that? Seriously, how do you know that? What’s wrong with your faaa~aaace?”

And I went for a walk today in the bright sun, and my brother and I basically spent the whole walk trying to calculate if it was more sensible to use a single bolt or take advantage of the Warhammer High Elves’ awesome repeater bolt thrower which fires six shots at S4. We determined eventually that there is indeed a higher chance of killing knights (or whatever) by using six bolts. Mystery solved! After much math, including factoring in Lady’s Saves and things like that…

Did you ever realize just how present the piano is in the Battle of Hoth? Awesome.

Flairé: Miss Leslie? Did you find your room all right? (sniffs the air) ! Leslie?!

(sees note on the floor): The little human is ours. You can do nothing to help her, Nieron Flairé. Bow to our wishes!

Oh, hey, it’s another page. And now I have to get ready to go.

I like drawing Flairé. I only wish his castle matched up to him. Oh well. If you’re wondering that is a hallway that has bedrooms and such off of it. Except you can’t see the doors because… the walls have pillars sticking out of them. That you can’t tell. Yessss. : P

By the way I did get a spam in English the other day. So the previous comment is vindicated or something.

I am solar powered! I must be, because the last couple of days have been beautiful! And suddenly I feel like doing things! Practicing, playing Guild Wars, cleaning up, drawing, running - I went for a run yesterday!

Flairé: Yes, I’m very proud of you. (pats head)

Yay! So now it’s kind of misty out today-

Flairé: Great West Coast weather. My fave!

-but after we get back from the Via Choralis concert in Sidney I am going for another run.

Last night’s Baroque concert was just great. They performed (among other fantastic things) The Schoolmaster by Telemann, and had a very cute guy singing the lead role. There were four girls in the children’s chorus who were playing the smitten students. It was adorable. Also people should play Baroque oboe more often. It’s lovely!

The organ concert on Thursday was good too, but I liked the Buxtehude better than the Bach selections. They seemed maybe less structured and heavy and more emotionally charged. Maybe that’s just me.

Stay tuned for recital poster - coming soon!

Leslie: Well, this has certainly been a weird day… I had a nap and I wake up… in Jen’s head? (shakes head) No, it has to be real. Flairé is so nice, and Flaria is such a good cook… (dark-clad figures creep in through open window and grab her) Ah!

Working on colour. Will try to get it up tomorrow. Need to find dark red marker that’s not purple. Markers drying up.

Aaaaaah! Something happened! Oh noes!

Hold on to your instruments, things are actually going to go pretty fast from this point on. I guess I need to work on pacing more.

How do you like the attempt at moonlit floor? That’s not a moon in the upper right panel - it’s a stained glass window.

Sorry I’m late again. I was getting ready for Christine’s recital! She looked like a goddess of spring, with a light green silk gown and a silver clip in her golden hair. And she played fantastically, of course! Laura was pretty amazed at the end of the trio (Pantheon by Elizabeth Raum) because we filled the hall with so much sound. And yesterday was spent cleaning and watching movies (Beauty and the Beast twice, a BBC show about space and stuff, a different programme about Mozart, and Spirited Away just for kicks). And now I am practicing. Or supposed to be. Also we renewed our rented FFIV and Lego Indy 2, because Kevin is really really close to beating FFIV (Theobez (and Bluya!) for the fail! : P hahaha). Now I need to reread Darkstar AGAIN. Oh, and Apollo, from the Raum trio mentioned above, would be a GREAT theme song for Aur. Yesssssss.

My Bach is all memorized! Huzzah! And memorized good!

Now I go to beat the Beethoven into submission tomorrow. (sigh) The exposition of the first movement is acting up again. If I can’t keep that under control, how am I going to learn the (difficult) coda of the last movement?

And then I will memorize the rest of the Dutilleux because I want to play it on Thursday. If not I will be breaking out the Beethoven.

I Totally Dare You To Dance

painted on Jan 8, ‘10

Oooh, it’s a painting! Not Photoshop, but Corel Painter. I was messing around with it, trying to see if I could get it to work. I think I did. In a rudimentary fashion, anyway.

One new thing I tried was highlighting from two different light sources. Well, that’s rather fancy talk for what I really did. I just highlighted from a neutral light source, then applied the blue layer and added orange highlight on one side - for the fire - and white on the other - for the moon. It’s a little bit too subtle but too much looked really bad.

The attitude turned out pretty good, though.

I painted this while listening to The Kilforna Set from the Chieftains Album Water in the Well. Great tunes!

Am beginning my recital poster as soon as I post this.

Hey, I need a pianist to sub for me at a short and rather informal choral concert on Sunday. It’s only an hour long with an hour long rehearsal beforehand; good pay and transportation provided. Comment or email me if interested and available and dwelling in Victoria! : P

            30 seconds later:

Flaria: Oh! A person. How old is she? Does she like music? Where did you get the dress?

Flairé: Her name is Leslie, she’s 19, and she plays music everyday. We got the dress at Avumal’s place. Miss Leslie, this is my over-excitable sister Flaria.

Flaria: *eyeroll* Hello, Leslie! I’m very pleased to meet you. What do you like to eat?

             Leslie: What is there?

Hi! I need to go do stuff, so here is the finished ink of the page. No colour; that will come later.

AAAAAHHHHH IT’S A FEMALE FLAIRÉ just kidding.

Oh, yes. As soon as Flaria meets the new girl her thought is only hyper curiousity and whether she’s hungry.

This room needs a little more colour. The next time you see it, it will have some red drape-y things. Almost wasn’t going light the candles, but then I figured that it would only be natural. And I’m running out of yellow marker! : ( I will try and fix that for next week but I make no guarantees.

Oh and I don’t think the “switching back and forth” in the first frame was too successful. I will do better next time. I also forgot Flairé’s sword in the second panel. He just took it off really really fast? Those kalmaei are fast, you know.

Successfully played two churches this morning. Not bad. Played the 3rd mvmt of Bédard’s Quatre Pieces en forme du Messe and the Menuet Gothique by Boellmann.

Okay I have rehearsal and lots of practice, so here I go.

Flairé: We’re going to go now, Yoeath. Unless you want to stay longer? (Leslie: Ummm… shrug?) We’re going to meet my sister and get some food. You know!

Yoeath: Get along with you then, Zelaré.

Leslie: Ummm… I thought your name was Flairé?

Flairé: Well, most people call me the son of my father. But she’s friends with my mother, so she calls me the son of my mother.

          Leslie: Ohhhh…

Flairé: Bit awkward that my little brother calls himself Marteth Hciristial Zelaré, though…

          Leslie: ?

…Confused yet? : P

Well, it’s not important anyway. As you can probably tell, Leslie already knows a good deal about kalmaeirin naming conventions due to hanging around me a lot. o_O7

Next page is in production. Next three pages are in production. At the end of it, something happens, so hang in there!

And the last picture of Tam, for now. This one is not bad, but still not right. It brought out the colour change in his hair, at least. One of the points that is off is that his forehead is too far foreward.

I dreamed that I had a fantastic dark blue velvet dress, possibly for my recital.

Today I went to L&MQ (Long and McQuade for you non-music-store people) and I bought an H2 digital recorder. I am about to use it to practice. After I get dressed because it was pouring rain out so when I got home I was soaked and very tired so I had a nap. While I was at LMQ, I ordered the music for the Messe Cum Jubilo and it’s coming from Vancouver! I also found out that reeds are VERY VERY EXPENSIVE OH MY GOSH HOW DO YOU REED PLAYERS SURVIVE. It’s ludicrous.

Anyway, cheers!

Yoeath: Are… you staying long, little Leslie?

Leslie: I don’t know, Yoeath. I just got here, and I’m so confused…

Yoeath: That is all right. You little ones often are. Although it is not as if you come here often.

Leslie: Have many people come here?

Yoeath: Only a handful. Young Flairé takes care of them when they do.

Flairé: That’s right! There’s my fudhuindili, her fudhuindon - though I don’t think he remembers much - also a few really random people you wouldn’t know. Like Illi- Esgalwen.

          Leslie: But - oh. Really?

          Flairé: Yup! : )

Yoeath struggles with personal pronouns while Flairé gabbles on about people he knows while still being mysterious. It’s a problem that I, my brother, and Flairé, Gullac, Zela, and Marteth all have. Flowering bushes take forever, and I’m pleased with today’s chibis.

Cheers!

Last night was Natalia’s Rosca party. We had a teeny tiny salsa circle (three couples on about a six foot square of floor) for a couple dances and Ana brought her guitar (and has Gerudo Valley on her iPod! Win!) and it degenerated into Spanish kareoke. I chose Virgen by Los Adolescentes (of course) but could only really handle the refrain. Good times. Today I have a horn rehearsal at my house (ooh, different) and a flute recital to go to and then hanging out time!

Also I think I may have enticed one or two new people to come to salsa. Come, guys! It’s terrific fun! Wednesday nights, 7:30, Vertigo in the SUB! Be there and I’ll show you the moves (actually Sam will show you the moves and I’ll help)!

Duruflé is the best. THE BEST.

Sleeeeeeeeeep.......

Morning, Nov 24, ‘09

drawn Nov 24, ‘09

(581)

This picture was probably drawn nine hours after the previous picture, and it illustrates all the important things that happened that morning.

1) it was misty out. Flairé appreciates that.

2) because of the insomnia that led to yesterday’s picture, I was short on sleep and dragged myself very unwillingly to Latin class. And I would be wearing glasses, but you wouldn’t be able to tell what they were if I drew them.

Last night’s salsa was incredibly fun… I was surprisingly tired (this last week wore me out more than I thought?) and fell over a few times - mostly when I didn’t know the move my lead was trying to do. (Sorry!) The music was even louder than last time… (note to self… bring MOAR EARPLOOGS next time…) But it was great fun.

          Leslie: What’s that?

          Flairé: A unicorn. Hey, Yoeath!

Leslie: Awwww! (goes running off - freezes suddenly as Yoeath turns and blinks at her)

Yoeath: Hello? And what is thy name?

          Leslie: L-leslie

Yoeath: Thou may call me Yoeath.

(Flairé: Yo, the current usage says ’you’ is casual, not ‘thou’… Yoeath: *blinks*)

Whoa, those flowers were a little bit of a trick. Aaaaand the background is a bunch of random squares. Whatever.

I’M WALKING BACKWARDS FOR CHRISTMAS - The Tuscan Salami Scandal

Over Sea, Under Stone would make a fantastic movie! I read it last night. Now I want to read the other four.

And that is my announcement for today. Yup.

P.S. I am DONE watching FFIV. I watched the whole thing (without sound because someone was trying to narrate - badly) in the SNES version on YouTube. It was a good story, and now I understand Wayrift a lot more. And Darkstar, especially Darkstar. Yay!

P.P.S. Today is both Professor Tolkien’s birthday and Epiphany! Hooray!
