Elfin, in colour

coloured June 30, ’10

Whooo! It’s another colour thingy, made with my tablet yesterday! I put up both versions… the one that is plain and then one with a primitive attempt at forest-y lighting. I was going to put stronger shadows on his face but I got sidetracked so you get the same old boring flat lighting. Whatever.

This is a colour version of this picture, and it is of this guy.

I been playing SSBB: Subspace Emissary, and FE 11, and Sims 3. And organ. Yay organ! I am actually improving!

Art books and Warhammer

Well, today after my piano lesson I went (first to the bank and then) to the art store, Island Blue… great store. I needed a sketchbook, as I may have mentioned earlier. I bought two; one for pencil stuff, black cover, smooth pages, coil binding, and one for pen/marker stuff, also coil binding. I will need to do something about the cover of that one, though, as it has some idiot marker manga rollerblading doke on it and I don’t like him. I also randomly bought some little decorative brad thingies (like the binding things you find in duotangs, just not attached to a book) and I think they might go either on the Zela costume or in something Warhammer-y. Then I passed by the paper section, but I didn’t get anything, even though that Japanese stuff is soooo seductive. There was a little bag about 8″x5″x1″ for only $10 and the first sheet in it was this gorgeous blue with white cranes on it. So pretty. But, y’know, what am I going to do with it? …I should have bought it. : P

Then I went to the art book section, and I found two books there: Dragonart by someone with a website named NeonDragonArt, which I’ve actually been to before, and John Howe’s “How to Paint Like Me It’s a Cinch Anyone Can Do It” – ahem, I mean, “Fantasy Art Workshop”. The previous title was what he “wanted” to call it, according to him in the introduction. I have the idea that he’s a jokey kind of person. : D It’s a great book. But I think I’m most excited about the sketchbooks. Heeheehee.

My mom got a fashion magazine last night. I’m horrified. o_O7

Played a Warhammer battle today. My skirmishing White Lions + AwesomeCommanderDude (played by Penlod) took on my brother’s Bretonnian pleasant peasants in their castle.

Flairé: You so wanted an excuse to say ‘pleasant peasants’, didn’t you?

Yup. Anyway, I won, due to the fact that my guys have massive strength and hitting capability. 60% losses, including the commander, but 100% enemy losses, so that’s… pretty darn amazing. I managed to sidestep the boiling oil, so I’m very lucky, actually. I think maybe he should have taken rocks after all. Oil causes major damage, but only if you’re dumb enough to stand under it. Still, wasn’t expecting to win that crushingly. It did come down to the very last turn, but I was rolling great hitting and wounding dice. His archers didn’t do too badly with their shooting, either. Here’s a shot of melee two turns after I got up the walls.

linkprofileicon So. Um. Elfin is cute! Though his horse is a little small.

Flairé: You lost the battle, didn’t you.

Yeah, I think so. But I managed to twist it into a moral victory. Or something. I have the idea I was going to continue it, but I didn’t get around to it. And so I don’t remember what happened after that last frame, if anything.

Last night was some pretty good movie watching. The best of the Star Wars movies, for sure. Except it didn’t have much in the way of X-wings. (see last post for facepalm-worthy X-wing humour) That’s why the first and third are its equal. Although Luke is whiny in the first one, and the last one has Ewoks. Why couldn’t they have a movie with lots of X-wings, no Ewoks, and a mature Jedi Knight? That would be the most awesome Star Wars movie ever. Hmm….. I don’t think it exists. It would probably have the screenplay written by Michael Stackpole. : P

Did I mention we have new speakers for the TV? They sound excellent. And smooth. And kinda woofy, actually

Still plugging away at Chapter 7 of The Tactician and the Jewel. The opening is starting to take shape. Not sure how to get into the action yet, though I have some good ideas for the action itself.

Oh, and I was thinking. About spam. It’s actually pretty funny. I’m not going to let it through, but I’m tempted just by the stupidity and randomness of it. I mean, I wasn’t even talking about waffles, let alone waffle slogans! And I’ve forgotten all I ever knew of set theory, so I’m definitely not writing a book on it. Man, those crack me up. Was I talking about set theory? Was I? Was I?

flairekickiconWell, here’s the second last page of the comic, and what a depressing page it is. Oh well.

Check back tomorrow to see the vaguely exciting conclusion to the battle!

Ia heass nuuuurrrrngessss saun lyrhya, because I couldn’t get to sleep last night because of blamey Lord Pent. He’s one of the most attractive guys in Fire Emblem in all ways (looks, personality, and awesomeness) and everytime I read Bouquet (a lovely Pent/Louise fanfic) I can’t go to sleep until late-

Oh. Our brand-new speakers are waking up the neighbourhood now. Ow my backside. It’s rumbling.

If you like Pent/Louise fanfics, I have to also recommend this one: A Thousand Miles. The author calls it “sugary, tooth-rotting stuff”, and it is, but I like it anyway because of that and because it fills me with glee. It’s perfect. Of course, Bouquet is so well written it’s almost (almost, but not quite) canon to me…

Anahoo, they’re the best married couple in videogame history, and that’s the end of that. Except I’m not grateful for the insomnia. Pickles. : P I traced their official art yesterday, and Pent is my desktop now, though I wish there was an actual desktop for him because that would be wonderful. I guess I’ll just have to get Photoshop and make my own to be happy with it.

I went to a dance thing yesterday, and y’know, there were only three or four people I knew there, and two of them were girls, so at first I just sat and watched the band for the first song-and-a-half. Then I remembered I was going to use Flairé as a role-model – he gave me the courage to penetrate the crowd of strangers, apparently just sitting around and eating, the second time I walked up to them, and to find Jon, first off. Flairé’s cool, calm, and collected, and would have just strolled on in there and found the people he was looking for just like that. And when the music started, he would have been the first one up, partner or no partner. And then he told me he was in the band (I could see he wasn’t, but I could imagine him performing if I didn’t look at them) so, what choice did I have but to get up and dance, even by myself? And now I have something like five mini-blisters from wearing dress sandals and it was worth it. (though I may change my mind once I go to work…) “Just never keep your feet still,” he said to me. I can do that. The crowd of strangers eventually formed a mambo line, but I was having fun doing what I was doing so I didn’t join them. Afterwards, one of the band said ‘nice dancing’ so I guess I was graceful, whatever else I was. It’s all thanks to the swishy-skirt!

I completely rewrote the first half of Chapter 6 of The Tactician and the Jewel, cutting out about five pages of stuff, so I think it works better now. Mr. Crazy is just as crazy as he ought to be while still being recognizable. Phew. Started the first paragraph of Chapter 7. This is one of those chapters that it’s harder to start than to continue, I think, so I just have to keep working at it until something appears on the screen. If you’re desperate to change the plot of the chapter from “valiant rescue” to “epic defence”, go vote! –>

I have Sinfonias 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 memorized. I’ll have to listen to my Brendel recording of 5 a ton because it is a pain to understand.

Movie tonight with folks, and less than a week to Othello! Huzzah!

firetempleavatar The ‘two-page spread’? The Bret general charges my general, drawn on two separate sheets of paper and clumsily joined in Paint because I have no Photoshop. Oh well. You can tell what’s going on, can’t you? There’s not much else behind the Bret lord. Just his horse’s tail. So you’re not missing anything. If you really think you are, save the picture and have another look. …unless you have larger screen resolution than I do (1280×800) and then it doesn’t matter. I think there was supposed to be dialogue, too, but I have no idea what it was. Looks like blue-eyes got his helmet knocked off pretty quickly, though. I guess that means he’ll fit ‘Penlod’ in my spearmen a bit better.

Check back tomorrow to see what that last scout from the page before last is doing! :P

I went to salsa last night! It was still a pretty small circle, but there were more experienced people there than usual, including a guy named Sam, who’s been in China for a while or camping in the interior. He’s really really good, like awesome good, and can lead a girl like anything. Afterwards when there was some ‘free dancing’ he danced some regular salsa with me (as opposed to Rueda salsa, which is what the salsa club at UVic is all about) and it was… pretty darn fun. Though I got dizzy with all the spinning. And he says he’s only been dancing for two years! But he goes to more than one salsa club so he gets lots of practice. Everyone was urging me to go to another salsa thing tonight, so I guess I should try and get to that.

If I’m not too tired. I was hideously tired this morning for some reason… But I dreamed Kryten was wearing a dress. …which doesn’t really make up for anything! I think I saw Flairé before that, though, so that’s good. It’s a good thing it’s my day off running, because I ache all over. And it’s already hot out.

Finished the flipping Chapter 6 of The Tactician and the Jewel… Rhost was extremely annoying. He wouldn’t go crazy in character, or else he’d go crazy in character and fail to be forceful enough to cause tragedy which was supposed to be the point. I think I’m being too nice with him. But he’s a nice guy! Or at least, he was. I’m not very good at writing corruption, after all.

Chapter 7: the one everyone’s voting on in the poll over there! –>

I may just skip this chapter for a few more days and give people a chance to get their last minute panicked votes in, but seeing the level of traffic around here… actually, I can’t see it, but I haven’t gotten any votes in a few weeks, and option 2 is way ahead of all the others, so I will just go with that, then! Thanks for participating! (actually, most of the votes come from me individually and personally polling people and then adding their votes myself… so no, I did not skew the poll!)
