Aiya and Mwennon

scan0021

Aiya Elisia Cato, age 4, and Mwennon Marcus Cato, age 9 months. (first convincing babeh I ever drew! : D)
Aiya has her mother’s dark hair and her father’s brown eyes, while Mwennon began life with very dark hair but it lightened to a more chestnut colour by the time he was in his teens while his eyes darkened to black. They both had slightly pointed ears as half-elves, and had some (yet to be determined) control over magic and the Flow.
Aiya did turn out to be the more serious of the two, enjoying quiet time and study. Mwennon hung out a bit too much with Aunt Xan, Aunt Lae, and Trearen, and was a bit more adventurous than his sister. However, both of them smile and laugh more than their father. :3
More description to come when they tell me.

Bonded

scan0019

It’s only a slight bond, compared to the others; Hrulash is a plain, straight human, and doesn’t have the kind of intuition required to have more of a mental bond with his partner. They can sense great emotional distress from each other; extremely strong emotions make it through. But in spite of its limits, the bond is still there. And in spite of their differences of opinion and demeanour, they greatly enjoy spending time together. Like here.

Thou Fiend

Hrulash and Garekhen facing down some bad guy. Attempted to draw a saddle; did not go so well yet. Oh well. It’s a start. Hrulash is weilding Grandpa’s Lance, which I described recently thus: “Red steel in a teardrop shape for the head, with wings just below it, and a long black haft… And a staticky feeling around it that told him it was enchanted somehow.” I wonder who made it, and why? I think the dwarves must have made it, which means we won’t find out about it until Book 3.

Streets of Regalo

…can be pretty tough when young Lord ad Ventum and young Lord Cato declare war on the other kids from the surrounding villas. Tseo’s gotten in trouble with the city guard more than once, for sure. XD But between Tseo’s command and Hrulash’s tactics, they dominate the neighbourhood in their little wargames.
They’re both wielding wooden swords, and Hrulash’s is a shortsword and Tseo’s is a broadsword. I don’t know why Tseo’s holding his like a baseball bat, though

So! Hrulash doesn’t exactly have a wide range of expressions. But if you can figure out what the different combinations of his facial features mean, you might get a tiny bit closer to understanding how he reacts to things and thus how he thinks.

…Because I can’t talk enough about this most demanding and pushy of muses (Hrulash: …….), I am now going to explain some of his more notable expressions. The others are just variations on these. Continue reading

Hrulash and Family

scan0014

Marcus Cato, Hrulash Cato, Elisia Cato (nee Delphinus), Petrus Cato. Father, son, mother, grandfather.
Notes on armour:
The breastplate is probably in several pieces so, you know, he can bend over (Lavi: BEND OVER!) rather than the solid piece it appears to be here.
The belt with the leather hip armour skirt hooks directly onto the bottom of the breastplate. Underneath he’s wearing a black wool short-sleeved/short-legged bodysuit thing.
The pauldrons are more European than Roman, but I think it’s excusable since Romans didn’t fly on dragons. The cloak hooks on to the pauldrons but is long enough to be unhooked, wrapped around to completely cover him, and be pinned closed in front for warmth.
The lance has a ridiculously large head so that even when diving at high speeds, he’ll hit SOMETHING. The shield is oval-shaped, and has a strap that can be hooked on so he can sling it over his back. In fact, it’s really only used when fighting on foot.
The fore-arm and shin armour is quite sturdy, as they’re taught to block attacks with those parts of their limbs (no idea how realistic/useful that is irl).
Not pictured: helmet.
Also the sandals that he’s wearing are closed-toe and closed-heel, unlike what the rest of his family is wearing.
His dad and grandfather are wearing a toga over a tunic.
His mother is wearing a dress with a sort of shawl-thing attached at the shoulder-pins, which would otherwise be decorational.
