longshipiconHi! Just putting up a picture before I go waste my brain cells on KOTOR II again. I’m getting close to the end. Um, this picture is… not very good. I mean, it’s better than usual for a picture of people kissing, but it’s of people kissing, and I’m not very good at that. I think. I haven’t tried in a while. Anyway, there is no real story behind this picture. It’s just Zela and Flaer, kissing. Because they do that on occasion. When their children aren’t looking. : )

Hey, if you’re in Victoria, there’s going to be a Baroque orchestra concert tomorrow on top of Mount Tolmie, apparently. At 1:30 and again at 3:00.

Um, not much to report, except that I saw a friend today - Shifra! with haircut - and my piano teacher thinks that my technique is fine. (dances) I was going to say something else… oh yeah!

You know the theme song of Red Dwarf? Of course you know the theme song from Red Dwarf. “I want to lie/shipwrecked and comatose/drinking fresh mango juice…” Anyway, it was written by Howard Goodall. But wait, you say, who the heck is Howard Goodall? Well, one person he is… in the episode of Mr. Bean in which he goes to church and they sing the hymn with all the Alleluias - I’ll look it up later; right now we just call it the Mr. Bean Hymn - and there is an ORGANIST. And the ORGANIST is HOWARD GOODALL. In case you were wondering. He also wrote an interesting book called Musical Big Bangs.

I saw four people today with haircuts.

And that’s all for today!

gauthav2Uuuuuhhhhhhhh… Not sure what to tell you about this picture. I had just watched Spiderman2, and I liked it, mostly. It had its moments. Soooo…. I think Flairé jumped in front of a machine gun or something - I don’t really remember - and while his armour protected his head and torso, his arms and legs are now useless (in the picture). And Spiderman rescued him.

I don’t know what I was thinking anymore. But it is kind of a funny picture. And Spiderman came out well, and Flairé is wearing his crazy helmet. It doesn’t look so good in this picture, though. And there’s a background.

My brother and I have watched the first six episodes of Red Dwarf. Huzzah! I also got to sleep in, which was nice.

Time to pick a project to work on! Should I… work on the one I started yesterday? Take a picture of the one I finished last week? Beat KOTOR II? Watch my bro beat Lara Croft? Work on my X-wing? Read X-wing? That’s not even counting the stuff I have to do anyway today. Like piano and organ and go to the bank and go for a run (not now, too hot and sunny outside) and hit the library for piano music.

Flairé’s collapsible helmet

flairestuckiconThis is Flairé, and his usually near-invisible (when collapsed) collapsible helmet that became so popular during the second half of the war.

…I totally just made that up, but it’s canon now.

I actually like this design. I will try and keep it if I ever draw it again. And I didn’t make up the part about him wearing the helmet, because I’ve known he wears it all the time - heck, I don’t think he takes it off - but I just made up the part about it being in use during the second half of the war. I didn’t even know the war had halves.

Flairé: It didn’t.

He’s right, now that I recall the very spare outline he’s given me so far… Although he could have given it to me wrong. He does that on occasion. Anyway, I think Flaer and Zela have helmets like these as well, and Flaria, though she never wears hers, but Flairé is the one I’m always being, so I know his gear the best.

I should make his black velvet cloak with the rainbow-ed scarlet embroidered phoenix on it someday.

I’ve been watching Red Dwarf for the first time that I can actually remember and understand it. It’s very very funny. I know I watched it when I was little because I kept asking Dad why that guy had an H on his forehead, and also I remember seeing two kinds of mermaids - one with a woman’s top half and fish’s bottom half, and one vice versa. I haven’t gotten there yet. I’ve only watched four episodes. Craig Charles is funny, but I mostly know him from Robot Wars. Oooh, Robot Wars Season 2 is cool. (example 1, example 2) Cassius is my favourite. Huzzah!

Ramble ramble ramble.

My hands hurt. Good thing I have the week off work. Also the blister I got on my right heel last week somehow bled all over two socks without me noticing. Interesting, but I’ll have to break out my secret weapon: band-aids.

Didn’t get done yet what I wanted to show you. Would help if my realism skillz were not terrible at drawing from memory. I’ll try again tomorrow.

I don’t think a 4′ long sword would be too long, actually… but that’s just me. Comments welcome!

Running into swords but not literally

...
Filed under: Random blog posts, Running — Tags: — Illinia @ 10:55 pm

I went running! It was a little bit cool out, and it was very lightly raining… the rain in my hair afterwards was like tiny bits of crystal. It was pretty (the rain, not my hair. My hair was rather awful.) And I have shiny new shoes! Shiny shiny shiny. Well, they’re not shiny anymore. I took them on the trail in the rain, so now they have tiny bits of bark mulch stuck to them.

I do love the smells around when it’s raining in the summer… there’s the smell of warm wet trees, warm wet grass, warm wet concrete, warm wet bark…

Flairé: Warm wet muifrurd

You shut up.

Flairé: Aw.

The other thing I have to blog about today (lots to blog about today, for some reason…) is swords. I’ve been looking at ‘em. On the interweb. I’m looking for a Zela-type sword. Oddly enough, I’ve found this shiny at three different sites (search ‘classic medieval decorator sword’ if it doesn’t appear on the last one), all $9 cheaper than the last one.

Another sword with the same vague shape is this one, which looks pretty nice - clean lines, a little bit more intricate than perhaps a purely historical sword.

This one is quite plain, and not the right shape of cross piece, but it has a heavy pommel (even if not an amythest orb, but whatever - where on earth would I find that anyway?) and black on the handle of the hilt, and it has a good looking blade. And it’s spring steel!

Here’s a super cheap one with similar characteristics, although I think I actually like the straight cross piece of the previous one rather than the dramatically curved cross piece.

Okay, take a look at this. Here’s Glamdring-of-the-movie (another contender) with a nice shape of hilt and a good long blade - but it’s the cheap one. Here’s the real collector’s one. Doesn’t it look so much better? Of course, there’s a $165 price difference between them. Heh. That would be why.

I’m not sure which one I want yet. I’m still thinking, and looking. It’s a terrible decision to have to make. :P

And that’s all I’ve looked at so far. Later, perhaps tomorrow, I’ll give you a hint as to why I’ve started thinking about it now. I mean, besides the fact that now I know two people who personally own swords.

Link with a hood

flaireiconHmmm… I was trying to practice both cloth and facial structure. I’m not sure I succeeded, since Link looks more like any sullen young Japanese man than, uh, himself, and his ears did something funny to his hood… Not a terrible picture, but not one I’m particularly proud of either.

I’m making a lot of spelling mistakes today. I’ve made about eight or nine so far; I’ve fixed them, but it’s a little annoying. Anyway.

I had friends over yesterday! It was fabulous! All the scheduling worked out great, and the organ concert three of us went to was glorious, although I really really need to go and try out Christ Church Cathedral organ because everybody I know has played it - all the local organists have played it, my brother has played it, even Organist - who lives in Vancouver - has played it! I’m getting rather jealous. I’d better work on my Jongen and things like that. Did I say I’d started the Ash Grove variations? Of course I did (she says without checking). (finishes checking) Yeah, I did. Oh, I loved the little Haydn pieces for musical clock. They’re so cute! And happy! And I played the Fugue from the Mendelssohn that was played (Sonata #6), so that was nice to hear. I’ve also played the Buxtehude he played, but everyone knows that already. It’s the G minor prelude that UVic music students get to listen to in 120B (Baroque Music History). Also a really cool Arvo Pärt piece called Annum per Annum.

And then we went home and ate cheap popcorn :P and played chess and told D&D stories and watched YouTube (mostly Mythbusters (I like Grant’s hysterical giggle), the original Safety Dance by Men Without Hats, and others) and looked at the Failblog/Lolcats pictures I have saved on my computer and took a peek at RinkWorks until 1 in the morning. There’s nothing like looking at something funny on the Internet and having two great (and warm) friends leaning over your shoulders laughing with you. Also showed them the Steve Campbell books we have: Tales from the Back Page (also Son of a Back Page Book, but we didn’t get there). Steve Campbell is from Prince Edward County, where my grandparents live, so that’s why we have those books. Actually that doesn’t explain it at all. But we have them, and they are funny. We were all falling over laughing.

Also we talked about swords and martial arts. I think I might look into some sort of martial arts next year (instead of Rueda? In addition to Rueda? Hmmmm…. don’t want to give up my salsa…) for a similar reason as the CC organ… everyone else I know has done it! Also martial arts are cool. I also have a new place to hunt for a Zela sword.

And this morning we looked at How It Should Have Endeds. Also MIDI pieces which have pictures of Chocobos in them. Win! I only got 5 hours of sleep but y’know I’m not really that tired today. It’ll hit me tomorrow, I suppose. And I was a little sleepy at work. But they gave me three loaves of bread and a bag of cinnamon buns they were going to throw out anyway so that’s good.

I’m going to go for a run at some point. After supper, and after I do some piano. Just a little one.
