That up there is someone who doesn’t normally look that way: it’s Kopaka from Bionicle (a Lego franchise). Basically, he’s a powerful warrior and guardian of the Bionicle people who live up the mountain, and he uses ice as a weapon. He’s pretty cool, the coolest character in Bionicle. If Bionicle can be considered cool. It’s not fabulous, and they’re getting wierder than ever. Their first movie (we saw the first and the second) was okay, but corny and kinda stupid. I just like Kopaka. He was also the first guy to show up in the comic that came with the magazine that we got for a few years, and he had some good lines. I also like the others a bit, Lewa best of the others, I guess.
Now an update from Hyrule! Man, I’ve been chasing after Link with a video camera for so long, I think I would be vastly in shape if only I weren’t controlling the camera from the ease of my own chair at the computer. I worked so hard on the movie I couldn’t get to sleep the first night because I was so excited and I almost forgot to eat for a few days. It’s way too long – an hour and twenty minutes or so and we only got to restoring light to Lanayru – but it has what we think of as all good stuff on it, and Kevin just loves some of my scene changes. I’m pretty pleased with them myself. It’s mostly cut scenes, and it emphasizes what we think is important: Colin and Ilia, the cat stealing Link’s second fish, Uli’s cradle (since it shows up in the – guess I can’t tell you), taming Epona with really fabulous music (just take a listen next time you play that bit – it’s wonderful), SUUUUMMOOOOO, and some nifty other shots we thought were too good to leave out, in addition to the main story that revolves around Link and Midna and Zelda. And Zorg – I mean, Zant. What kind of cheesy name is Zant? Oh, and the bit where Midna says “What sort of weapons are these?” – almost chops Link’s head off, dumps the shield on his face – is pretty funny. And we had to leave in the Light Spirits because they have important exposition. Ugh. They talk so slowly. The menus were hard to do, because I didn’t understand at all, and the help wasn’t much help. But now, I have a really, really, great menu. Except you can’t see which button you have selected on the main menu. Odd, it shows up on the computer but not the TV. Oh, well. You can generally guess where you are since there are only two buttons. The chapter menus are nice, and they have moving thumbnails! Although one isn’t long enough, so we get a shot of Link getting booted off a cliff by a Goron over and over and over – which I guess isn’t as bad as the shot of Chapter 4 or 5 or so, which just has Ordona blabbing on and on. I put the Hyrule Field theme on the main menu, and the Ordon Village theme on the chapter menus. When it came time to render, I was pretty upset because I needed massive space on the computer that we didn’t have. So Dad, who was absolutely wonderful and supportive through the whole thing, took off his Flight Sim X and Combat Flight Sim 3 and stuff like that and set the thing to render overnight. Next morning we watched the whole video (which was only up to Colin’s injunction to save Ilia at that time) and found the main menu not working the way I wanted it. So, we did it again that afternoon. Now it works! I think Dad was so supportive (of a project having to do so much with something that rather bores him – he thinks Zelda is perfect fodder for teasing us with) is that making any movie is COOL and that he wants us to do it quick so he can install his new gaming video card (which we are also excited about).
The only reason that I can update today is that Kevin’s gone to Games Workshop to play with the guys and I don’t want to go too far without him, although he’s messed up the music of a couple scenes (e.g. bridge joust #2) by either waiting not long enough (usually) or too long or expecting me to do a cut anyway and pressing start. Rrrr. We missed a fabulous fanfare. I think I’m going to go get that footage again, except better. Before he gets back.
